Yes they did. Basically you take half your classes at Blinn and half at A&M. If you maintain a certain GPA for a certain period of time (not sure if it's one or two years) you're automatically accepted into A&M. You can still get a sports pass and be in A&M organizations while you're doing the Blinn Team thing.

Maybe it was around at my latter years, and I wasn't aware of it because it seems to affect freshmen and sophs more than juniors or seniors? I read it started around 01.

Yeah I'm 04 and I knew a couple people a year behind me who were in it. I think you're in it through your sophomore year and can get in automatically as a junior if you have the required GPA.

I never heard of it until 02.

But yes they are Aggies. They are just the dumbest of all the Aggies

To answer your question, no. Not until they can prove they aren't complete idiots and can get fully accepted.

Nah, I would say the dumbest are those who flunk out and don't graduate.

Getting on Blinn TEAM requires the same qualifications as getting into A&M. Since there are more people qualified than the University can accept, some of those are offered Blinn TEAM.

My daughter was on Blinn TEAM. She transferred into A&M full time before the requisite 2 years was completed. She also has a 3.4 GPA.

Not quite the dumbest.

My sister did this for the same reason. And she had student priveledges such as a Sports Pass and all that.

I like the concept of team blinn, but I think this is somewhat faulty logic. There are no minimum qualifications to being admitted. They change every year depending on the applicant pool. If team blinn people had better applications, grades, scores, etc. they would have gotten in and other less qualified people would have had to go to team blinn.

Your post doesn't make sense. People on Blinn Team have to be accepted to TAMU first, so the criteria is the same as that for TAMU.

The minimum criteria are the same for everyone, but some people exceed them. Even amongst a group of smart kids with good grades someone has to be at the bottom - those are the ones offered Blinn Team. The kid who blew the minimums out of the water isn't going to get offered Blinn Team instead of regular admission.

The smart kids don't go Blinn Team. The questionable ones do. They are pretty much starting school on scho prob. I don't think any Aggies are really dumb. But these are definitely the least smart. Or the dumbest

Blinn TEAM increases the number of smoking hot dumb sloots at ATM exponentially. God bless it.

Yes, they are Aggies. They have all the perks of being an Aggie and literally the only difference is that they take 2 or 3 classes at a school 5 minutes down the road.

I did Blinn Team my freshman year and lived on campus with a buddy of mine from high school. I graduated with a higher SAT/ACT, class rank, more AP classes etc. I actually tested out of 12 hours my freshman year. Anywho, he was admitted to Mays and I was offered Blinn Team. The application process can get pretty screwed up with as many kids as A&M has applying every year. Blinn really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be for a year and as a plus, it saved my parents a nice chunk of change getting to pay for CC classes.

My daughter had 26 hours at a Junior College (dual-credit HS/College) with a 3.5. She was homeschooled though so they couldn't really get an accurate class ranking and she did not do very well on the math section of the SAT.

There are enough automatic qualifiers that everyone else who qualifies exceeds the available space. There are also enough of those automatic qualifiers and others who quit or flunk out that there is a lot more room by the time Junior year comes around.

The admissions requirements are an imperfect indicator of a person's ability and willingness to do A&M level work.

My daughter was very disappointed when she was offered Blinn Team and considered turning it down and going somewhere else. I'm glad I talked her into accepting it. So is she, now.

Dad o, where did you get those stats about automatic qualifiers and space availability?

Also, where are you getting your attrition numbers from?

Blinn team doesn't place students Ito positions from stunsets that failed or left the university, those positions are filled by transfer applicants. The BT students already have a place reserved. Attrition rates and BT have nothing to do sit each other. Also, there is no significant difference in attrition between aq and non aq.

I made them up. Note that there were no real stats, just guesses based on available information.

If there was room for the automatic qualifiers, and everyone else who meets the basic requirements, then I would assume they all would be fully accepted. The fact that they are not tells me that there are more people qualified than there is space for. The letter that is sent to the students says essentially the same thing.

The fact that there is room for tranfer students (including those who transfer full time into A&M after Blinn Team) tells me that space has been opened up due to attrition. Who was there that is no longer? Those aq and others who were accepted full time to begin with.

I made no assertion regarding attrition rates for aq versus non-aq, I combined them.

If there "space is already reserved", why have a Blinn Team? My understanding is that they are actually treated like a modified transfer student. Just considering the entire situation of traditional students, Blinn Team, transfer students, etc...

Just using logic, no statistics.

~89% of the freshman class was top 10% or top 25%. Not all of the top 25% were automatic admission. UT is the university that had more AQs than space available in the freshman class. TAMU is close, but retains a fairly sizable absolute nubmber of spaces.

If you would like to set up an inperson or phone meeting about this, please post your email, and I would be more than happy to sit down with you and discuss the admissions process offsite.

Thanks CSTXAG.

I'm not questioning the policy and it makes sense. There are a lot of qualified students chasing that final 11% of available spaces. More qualified students than there is space for.

I didn't say that the automatic qualifiers filled the available space, only that between the aq, and all other qualified students, there is not enough space available to accept everyone. I'm glad I'm not in a position to have to choose who is accepted and who is not. It can't be easy. It's an imperfect science and there will always be excellent students turned away and disappointing students accepted. I suppose one good measure of how well the process is working is what percentage of incoming Freshmen graduate within 5 years. I assume that is tracked.
CSTXAG2015
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Those numbers are tracked. I would say the 6 year graduation rate is a better indicator since it 9in theory) captures those students that changed their major DP anytime between admission and upper level.
Dad-O-Lot
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would agree.

It took me 7-1/2 years. But I dropped out for a year, changed my major, got married and had 2 kids by the time I graduated.

I was also a transfer student.

Does A&M do rolling admission? He so, there could be students who are highly qualified but applied late so the university can't offer them all full time spot so they get blinn team.
OverR
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Frankly, I wish they would offer blinn team to a lot more folks that are "top 10." With the attrition rates the way they are its great to expand the freshman class that way. If they dont make it at least they are not saddled with 20k of debt just to be a sophomore.
