should be served at room temperature, if you use water or ice try a good pure water (not tap water) and use said water to make the ice as well

I prefer it straight, but I use Mountain Valley water out of Hot Springs Ark, or Highbridge in Woodford KY as my bottled water of choice

He comes across as pretentious, but he's right about the way it should be served. I'm not that particular about my water though.

I keep gin in the freezer, not whiskey.

Makers Mark is a pretty bland bourbon. Probably best kept in the garage.

FWIW: Not repping the state, just a fan of good bourbon, notice I suggested a water source in Arkansas. Not being a snob, but we were distillers when we migrated here from Scotland (prohibition ended that business, and the great depression made it impossible to bring back). That said I still have many friends in the business, including the Maker's Mark folks.

The issue with water and ice, is if you are paying a premium for something why not get the most out of it. Sorta like you would not put ketchup on a fine steak the way you might a hamburger. Hope this clears things up and it helps make savoring the drink that much better.

I am well familiar with the Woodford Reserve as well (hence the reference to Highbridge water as that spring is not far from that specific distillery) and many of the other producers in the area.

My FIL used to keep the gin, as well as pewter cups in the freezer, for his martinis. He cared less about glassware, it was all about the booze.
