Anyone else seen what they've done yet? They're slowly reopening sections of it as they complete it and it is beautiful. Seriously guys, it makes campus look so much more awesome that it did with that crazy stair crap.

Pictures posted.

Only problem is the big ditches on each side. The portion behind Coke/EW Bizzell needs to be regraded to eliminate the 3 foot moat round it. Will add pictures later tonight.

FYI, the YMCA building is coming along nicely and the artists rendering outside of it looks great. Its revitalization and the recreation of military walk helps bring the historic feel back to A&M. IMO, the university is doing a great job of upgrading the look of the campus. The Brown & Mitchell buildings are great, and the new building across Bizzell looks great too. The MSC will be fantasic after its done too. The new Ag building is moving along nicely, as well as the new research center off discovery. Over the last 10 years the campus has received a major face lift. Itd be nice to get the Biological Science building demolished and rebuilt into something with a little more historic feel. Blocker as well. If west campus didnt have Kleberg and Heep, the entire campus would look much less draconian. Itd be nice if they would highlight nd encorporate more of the old cornerstones like Harvey Mitchell etc into the new buildings.

i've briefly heard my grandfather reference military walk, what year was the original done away with?

i've heard him speak of guion hall, said he saw many movies in there.

fascinating stuff, when i take him to a&m this summer for his yearly visit, he will definitely want to see this.

In the spring of 1987 Duncan Dining hall was closed for renovations.

Because of the closure of Duncan the Corps would march to Sbisa every evening for chow.

What a great experience it was to march down Military Walk and have those memories that so many older former cadets had.

early-mid 70s ('71?) I believe is when it was originally renovated into what most on here remember.

Speaking of our architecture, does anyone else think it's funny (or tragic) that our architecture building is just about the worst looking building on campus?

Haven't been to campus in almost 6 years. The trees and foliage around Military Walk and Sbisa look good.

I will miss that "crazy stair crap." It had such a collegey-feel to it. Especially with that crappy message board.

Beautiful.

Now they just need to tear down Rudder and rebuild Guion. What a loss that was.

what are they planing on using the YMCA building for?

Not sure.

I'd love to see it restored to its condition when it was the student center. The old world craftsmanship in the building was amazing.

YMCA will be PHIL and then Admin offices. COMM will then centralize in Bolton. Its a good way to renovate a historic building while at the same time giving 2 very classic departments their own buildings. A&M is working hard at getting departments out from under the multiple building office and class structure. ENGL and PERF will be next with the Liberal Arts building planned to break ground in 2011.

Is there any way to go in/get a tour of the YMCA building? I walked by that building daily during freshman and sophomore years, always intrigued by the mystery of what's inside.

When I was in high school (early 60's) I'd come to campus with my parents to see shows the Aggie Players did at Guion Hall. I remember seeing CAN-CAN and ANYTHING GOES. However, I also remember that Guion Hall was built before the development of air conditioning but that didn't hurt anybody.

Man, the whole Rudder complex has become an eyesore. The renovated MSC is going to make it look even more so. Wish we could spruce up Rudder or better yet, make it look like the MSC architecturally.

I can't wait to see this when I go up for Final Review. I wonder if the Corps will march to Sbisa ever after it's completed. It be good bull to do it every so often.

I absolutely love the inclusion of the history plaques.

Awesome, but hopefully they will reduce the size of the sidewalks, because they no longer serve the purpose of carrying as much foot traffic as they did when the Military Walk was grass (71-09).

Not going to lie, I liked the steps too though I have to admit that, at least from the pictures, the redesign looks pretty rad.

What a waste. I don't understand why they continue to use pavers on campus. Initially, they look really nice and they hold up well...as long as they are used strictly for foot and bicycle traffic.

I think you would be hard pressed to find many places on campus where pavers still look halfway decent. With all of the vehicle traffic on the sidewalks, they get torn up pretty quick. I give the new Military Walk a year before it is in tatters.

The campus auxiliary staff is going to treat it like their own personal expressway.

YMCA supposedly has a swimming pool in the basement. I doubt if that stays.

This is awesome! It's amazing how they used to apply some architectural design to the buildings of old, yet in modern times (with more grads and $$$), they have put up such plain buildings and construction for years.

This seems an excellent step in the right direction.

Swimming Pool doesnt stay. Also, university vehicles (golf carts included) are prohibited from the entire Military Walk. That is the reason they are not destroying the current sidewalks. Its amazing hows just a couple of campus building projects have revitalized the old quad. Im also glad the ILSB matches the new building emerging tech building. Itll be awhile before any new buildings are able to get on the slate since the university recently implemented a building freeze.

From what I learned in my course texas culture our prof once told us that A&M has one of the best mosaics because when we were first building up campus we were using the recent italian immigrants on the brazos to make them. And it was very cheap and how now a days it would cost millions for the beautiful work they did around campus.

that was a pretty fun fact that i learned
