Or what, in your opinion, are the major airports in TX and why?

My opinion is an airport that accepts major carriers and has actual ramps connecting gates to the aircraft. My dad says only Houston Intercontinental and DFW.

All knowing Swammie of TA, what say you?

airports listed on the FAA website as major airports.

Those 2 are the only ones in Texas

what about military, cargo, private?Should probably be based on traffic , volume or # of passengers. What conversation were you having that this question cam e up?

Dad has an interviewer asking him for the closest major airport he can fly into to meet with him. Dad lives in Brownsville, TX. I don't think it makes much sense to have the interviewer fly into Houston and for dad to drive to Houston from Brownsville for the interview.

How would SA be considered major? Ever compare it to Houston or DFW? Flight volumes at those two have to be 2 to 3 times more....

i think class b rating is deciding factor. if it's not class b, it's not major.

international airport does not mean they actually get international flights, they just have the capabilities for it and has certain length for a runway from my understanding.

LBK does not really get intl flights at all, but is considered an international airport. I am sure that they may do spring break flights to mexico for all i know....

Not sure if this is true or not, but I think I've heard that an airport can claim "International" in its name just by having a certain runway length.

I consider major airports to be hubs for major airlines
IAH/EWR for CO
DFW/MIA/SFO for AA
ATL for Delta
PHX/CLT for US Air
ORD for United
etc...

judging by this statement, I figured op is looking for a def. to either prove or disprove his dads belief.

i don't think he wants everyone's idea of what it actually is.
