Almost all donuts used to taste like Shipleys. Dunkin's donuts have always been pretty awful, and they've driven most of the other guys out of the business.

There's a bakery on Martha's Vineyard that sells donuts fresh off the fryer from their kitchen door between midnight and 4:00 a.m. Those are the best I ever had. A couple of decades ago, the owners of the bakery discovered that "the high school kids seem to get real hungry for a snack after midnight" so they first started selling the donuts from the kitchen informally, and then they started to advertise. The donuts are great, but the bakery owner chose the unfortunate name, "Back Door Donuts" to advertise, so the tourists are not always sure what they are getting.

Shipley's has the only white cream filled donut i can find. It's like cake icing in a donut. All the other cream filled donuts have some sort of yellow pus stuff in them. diabetes wrapped in a donut.

Is it weird that I've never had one?
