pissed i didnt really discover how badass some of these movies are until recently. I think they are kinda hit or miss cuz i saw a couple of stinkers and thought they were all the same. so whats the scoop on which ones to check out and avoid. Some that ive seen that i really like are
Unforgiven
Tombstone
Open Range
Blazing Saddles


I would avoid 3:10 to yuma (cristian bale version is the one i saw)
appaloosa (started out ok but quickly turned lame)
and i know ill get blasted for saying lonesome dove but i thought it was boring as hell

Three words. John Fkn Wayne.

The three Burials of Melquiades Estrada was great. Forgot about that one.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - The Duke, Jimmy Stewart and Lee Marvin... OUTSTANDINGLY good movie
The Violent Men - Glenn Ford (also in the original 3:10 to Yuma)
Pale Rider - Clint Eastwood

Pretty much any western with John Wayne (OK, the later 1/2 of his life), Jimmy Stewart, Clint Eastwood or Glenn Ford is worth watching.

why no love for the first Young Guns? I love both of those movies.

jed, I took Winchester '73 off my list because it wasn't AS good as Liberty Valance. That definately was his best western IMO.
