I don't eat at TC. Every health report I've ever seen for them hasn't been good.

health report, schmealth report. i have eaten taco cabana for years and i have never gotten sick. whatever it is you've heard, my immune system can handle it.

I wouldn't want to eat at a mexican restaurant that had a 100% health rating. Maybe it's 'cause I grew up in south Texas and don't think it's odd to buy tamales from some trailer parked next to a gas station on the interstate.

At any rate, my fave is the carne guisada.

TC is not mexican food.

one time i was in colorado and i ate at a "mexican food" restaurant... WHEW... that was bad.

i am gonna have to say-- only because most of the time my taco cabana order is delivererd through the window to me with a "you want salsa or pico de gallo?" that is said in an english-is-my-second-language type dialect-- that taco cabana is indeed mexican food... tex-mex that is.

My fave is the chicken fajita nachos.

I've eaten at TC in:

Phoenix (2 locations)
El Paso
Dallas
College Station
Houston (4 locations)

and I can definitely say that there is a variance in the quality of food and service amongst the different locations. By far the best has been the TC at 59 & Kirby in Houston.

Some of the worst TCs are in San Antonio (where the whole darn thing started). College Station, Austin, Houston, San Marcos, and Seguin all have good ones.

Best food--Beef fajita tacos. Of course I also like to combine them with bean/cheese tacos to create sort of a Tacos Nortenas kinda thing.
Also, I like the regular (not fajita) chicken taco salads (sans the yucky guac and sour cream) and the cheese enchilada dinner.

Who cares if its "Mexican" or not. I once had a Hispanic introduce us to "real Mexican" food in Mexico--they put freekin american cheese on top of their enchiladas. One of the best "Mexican" food dishes you'll ever find is the mesquite grilled chicken enchiladas with mozarella cheese at Goode Company (a burger joint) in Houston.

Never could beat tortillas and cheese at 2am at Taco C on Texas.

I love Taco C after the bars close because everyone comes from all the different bars and everyone is tired or tipsy and looks nothing like they did when they went out for the evening.

Tortillas and queso. Their fajita tacos are good, too.

Lunch or Dinner: order of beans, order of rice, and 5 tortillias (sp)... lime in the rice... and plenty of pico!

I agree with superunknown. I also grew up in south Texas and the best places are the ones where you can feel the grease sticking to your shoes! My favorite TC food has to be carne guisada tacos with cheese! This is so not fair either! We don't have anything that's even close to TC's in Stillwater!!

It is not on the menu anymore but my favorite is a "Bacon and Egg Breakfast Quesadilla".

You can get some of the TC's to make it but it is an adventure.

wow-- i totally have to agree that the TC on kirby near 59 is the best-- in terms of service and food quality. it is also the best in terms of distance from my apartment-- OLE!

taco cabana has-- by FAR-- the best tortillas in the world.

i also like the chicken fajita nachos with lettuce and tomatoes. it's like a big taco salad.

i was just noticing the other night how many "FRIO GRANDE" TC drink cups i have in my house. i even have one in the bathtub so i can rinse my hair out when i take a bath.
