just watched fight club and apparently a single van filled with 400 gallons of nitroglycerin can bring a building done and somehow that doesn't seem like enough, but i cant find any documentation on that.

also in the movie there appeared to explosions on multiple floors, so perhaps it wasnt just the van in the bottom of the building? i havent read the book so I dont know if it goes into further detail.

You wouldn't be able to utilize nitro like they do in the movie anyway. It's very sensitive to temperature and movement; so if it's above somewhere around freezing (I think), it'll blow; if it's jiggled like they do in the van, it'll blow.
