She is not from Mexia. She lived in Mexia for all of about 6 month (according to my brother-in-law who was born and raised in Mexia and still lives there). Its just all a bunch of media hype that she's from a small Texas town. She's actually from California but the "girl from small town Texas" angle worked better for her scam.
