All of the following happened while I was driving back from work yesterday.

1) The ‘ABS’ and the ‘Battery’ signs on the speedometer are on in spite of the fact that my battery was replaced only last week. And the master cylinder was replaced in my brake system.

2) The speedometer and rpm meter stopped working all of a sudden.

3) The radio stopped working out of no where

4) The car didn’t accelerate properly during my drive back from work.

5) The indicator lights along with the power windows and locks stopped working.

At the moment, my car seems to be a ‘death trap’. I plan to get it towed to the mechanic’s place since I realized that I value my life more!

If it was a lease you could just take it in and make them fix it all.

I think you might have to take it someplace and pay them $40 to see what is wrong with it.

my guess is that it is computer related for all of that to be going on at the same time.

could be the alternator

could be the muffler bearings creating a short with one of the hr cables

or one of the HDMI cables failing to upconvert to the desired resolution

Most likely one of two things.

1. Alternator. Go to your local auto parts store and I think they will test it for free.

2. Computer. Your car computer has crapped out due to moisture or heat and it is gonna cost an ass load of money to replace.

if its not the alternator my suggestion is, buy a new car

Reason, the age of your car may qualify you to receive a grant from the state (if you live in texas) ,courtesy of people like CDUB, to purchase a newer car. You may want to look into it and thank CDUB for his generosity.

alternator, or computer control module (the brain of the car)
All that stuff does not fail at once.
If it's the 'computer' I suggest buying a used one off ebay.

I'm thinking ECM (Computer) and I'm not sure I would even diagnose it. The car is 15 years old and having major electrical problems. Save the "fix it" money and put it to better use on a new(er) ride for yourself.

The people telling you to just get a new car are wrong. It will cost you more to get a new one.

Replace computer, but make sure it is not the alternator first.

Yes, but what about when the 15 year old car continues to have issues?

what lauren and mcinnis said

it may cost you more money at first

but it sounds like this car is about to start having MAJOR problems

what would you rather:

a)15 year old car. pay a lot of money every 2-3 months to fix something plus teh inconvenience of having the car at the shop for an unknown length of time and not knowing when the car is going to crap out on you and leave you stranded.

b) have a set monthly payment on a new or slightly used car. only have to pay for the regular maintenance. and having the peace of mind of knowing the car wont crap out on you?

imo, option b >>>> option a
