Here's a recipe from the site:
quote:
At a Memorial Day party, I had Johnsonville Brats for the first time and fell in love. Here is how the host cooked them:
Several cans of beer (at least three), enough to cover the sausages

2 green peppers
2 large onions
Johnsonville Bratwurst
Hot Dog Buns
mustard

Chop onion and green peppers into large pieces. Pour beer into large pan, add green peppers, onions and bratwurst. Bring to a boil. Cover, and let boil for about 2 hours.

After boiling, place on grill for about 5 minutes a side.

Place on hotdog bun, add peppers and onions, and mustard, if desired.

here's a very similar recipe i saw on food nation with bobby flay on the food network. it's from milwaukee.

Beer Brats
Recipe courtesy Rick Rollo

1 dozen brats
Beer, to cover
1 medium large sweet onion
2 ounces (1/2 stick) butter
Place brats in a Dutch oven with onions and butter, cover the brats with beer. Bring to a boil and reduce to simmer until brats are cooked. Remove brats and set aside beer mixture. Grill brats until golden brown and return to beer mixture until ready to serve. Serve brats on fresh baked brat buns with sauerkraut, onions, green peppers, ketchup, and/or mustard.

I'm trying this one:

quote:
Beer Braised Bratwurst and Onions
Recipe courtesy Charles "Chuck" Bayerlein, Sheboygan, Wisconsin

1/4 pound (1 stick) butter, sliced into pats
1 large white onion, thinly sliced
8 bratwursts (any flavor)
2 (12-ounce) cans beer
8 hoagie buns
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Preheat a grill to high heat.

Place pats of butter in the bottom of a large, deep, glass oven-safe dish. Lay onions on top of butter. Place bratwurst on top of onions and pour beer over all ingredients. Cook in oven for 20 minutes.

When finished cooking in oven, place bratwurst on a hot grill for five minutes. Remember to turn to prevent burning. Remove onions from beer and discard beer. Place each bratwurst in a bun and top with the onions. Serve and enjoy.

Or you could do the easy man thing, which I do and enjoy thouroughly. My father taught me, his father taught him, etc.

Get a pot, put a couple of strong beers in it. Put it on a hot grill. When the beer comes to a boil, then you start. Brown the sides of the brats, just brown, not cooked, or seared. Put brats into boiling beer for about 15-20 minutes.

Bun with saurkraut or jack cheese or mustard.
Damn straight.

Soak it in beer for a bit, and then put on the grill. Then have a couple of beers while cooking. Once off the grill eat and have a couple of beers with it. Then for desert have some more beer.
