I know I get either contacts or lenses each year but i need both. would it be cheaper to pay out of pocket for the contacts or the glasses?

My glasses were more expensive, although I plan to keep longer than a year. $350ish. Paying $130ish per 6 months of contacts. Could go the other way if you get cheap glasses or expensive contacts.

I had to have 2 pairs of glasses: one for normal use and another for computer use. My insurance covered 1 pair fully and the other pair was covered 50%. I got a really nice pair for normal use and a cheapo pair for computer use. Maybe the same sort of thing can be done with your insurance. All in all, I walked out with 2 pairs of glasses and an eye exam for less than $200.

Glasses don't have to be expensive.

do you have to have a current prescription to order from 1800 contacts? I'll have to get a separate contact exam from the glasses exam.

I use the insurance for contacts and they pay for the glasses. But I have to get the most expensive lenses (I'm blind) so I just buy new lenses and keep the same frames.

i get 200 bucks a year, last year I bought contacts and got my perscriptions for both, (got about 18 contacts for each eye) for about 250 total.
