So at breakfast today another one of of the medical assistants pissed me off. She was running late for work because she had stopped to buy $20 worth of lottery tickets. Multi-child, single parent

Why the F are we letting people who are on WIC and other forms of public assistance win the lottery while buying food with our tax dollars.

Poor people are really pissing me off this week.

the state is getting their money either way.....

i would rather them buy lotto tickets and help fund education rather then spend what cash they have on booze and cigs and then use wic to buy their kids crappy food.

If she has a job, I don't guess I mind. If she was just settin on her ass... yeah.

I would have griped at her for being late to work for such a dumb reason, though.

I was in line at the gas station by my house for something, and the person in front of me was buying scratch off tickets. They were doing that number where they'd scratch off tickets while the cashier was getting the others, then with whatever money they won on that one they'd redeem for more tickets... all the while there's a line of people waiting to check out.

I left and went next door.

Um, the lottery gets taxed, so for every lottery ticket they buy, some money will go back to the treasury.

fyi - most of the money from the lottery goes into the general fund. Only a portion of lottery money goes to education. You can thank the rats in Austin for the bait and switch.

She's on welfare today. Say she wins, oh, $20 million tonight. There's a very strong probability that within five to ten years she'll be back on welfare again.
