I don't wanna ask this on the R&P board so that is why it is here.

I know most Protestant baptisms are okay in the Catholic church but I am curious about the reverse.
spork?

Usually, yes. Many demoninations will ask for an affirmation of faith.

Catholics will only serve communion to baptized Catholics. They have no way of knowing this though.

I don't know about other denominations, but Episcopalians will serve communion to any Christian that has been baptized.

I am Episcopalian, but if for some reason I am in a Catholic church, I will take communion. I was baptized Catholic because my parents got married in a Catholic church and they make you promise to baptize your children Catholic. So they did that, and then I was raised and confirmed as an Episcopalian.

Edit: poor wording

The majority of organized protestant churches respect a Catholic baptism. I have seen a couple of SBC churches try to rebaptize, but I don't think that's a widespread thing.

Depends on the Protestant church. Many Baptist churches don't 'accept' baptisms done too early or done without the childs consent (like when they're a baby and too young to know the difference). Methodist churches baptize little kids so maybe they'd accept it. Many protestant churches don't require baptism though and leave the decision up to the individual. Though they do highly encourage it.

I was baptized Catholic as a baby to satisfy my grandmother, but my parents never too me to church. I chose to get baptized later in a protestant church.

Methodist Church will serve communion to anyone who wishes to take part.

96 you're right. In my experience the Catholic church will only accept Catholic baptisms. But again, how are they going to know?

Yes we do, we place anti-Catholic Red Dye in the communion and upon contact with a non- Catholic it turns said person beet red and they are removed from Mass immediately by force.

You should be good.

I think its important for a Christian Church to remember that your denomination is only your first name and Christianity is your surname. The greater Christian family is always more important.

That's not nice. We share our juice and crackers with everyone.

AustinAg, my mom was raised Catholic and is now Episcopalian. She likes to talk about the Protestant trap.

When saying the Lord's Prayer, after "And lead us not in to temptation, but deliver us from evil" the Catholics would stop. I don't remember if the priest then said something or it just stopped there, but there was a pause in their recitation. Protestants (including Episcopalians) don't stop, so they have to be careful. If you just keep talking they have trapped you and they know your true identity!!!

We don't use juice. We get wine and wafers.

True. As long as the baptism was done under the Holy Trinity: Father, Son & Holy Spirit

I have always heard the Catholic church only accepts Catholic baptisms.

It has to be a triune baptism, like zap said.

I converted to Catholicism about 8 years ago. The church accepted my protestant baptism with no problem.

You have to be Catholic for communion.

That's what I thought. You have to be a baptized Catholic to receive communion.

Technically I fit into that category.

No. I was baptized Protestant and now take Catholic communion every Sunday.

I think this is just semantics. It can also be said, "You have to be baptized and Catholic to recieve communion."

We don't baptize babies; the person should be a consenting party in their own salvation. So no.

Do you have to go to confession to take communion?

I think that is mainly the Baptist stance. I think others accept it.

Catholic priests continue the Lord's Prayer with:

"Delivery us, Lord, from every evil and grant us peace in our day...."

Parishioners follow with:

"The Kingdom, the Power and the Glory are yours, now and forever."

I don't think you have to be baptized Catholic, however for a person to receive Communion in a Catholic Church it is important that they believe that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist. Through the mystery of transubstantiation, bread and wine become Jesus’ actual body and blood.

At least that's what my husband told me.

You can't just show up at a Catholic Church and say you are Catholic and take Communion. There are classes that one would go through to be Confirmed as a Catholic.

Baptized Catholics do not take Holy Communion until after their First Communion, which again has classes leading up to it (although it was 21 years ago so I don't remember much).
