I am reconfiguring my service line, and the line from the main to the meter appears to be SCH80 PVC, but I can't be sure about that. Does anyone have any experience with this that could provide an answer?

I do a lot of home repairs, including carpentry, electricity and plumbing, but even I won't touch gas lines.

and I don't think you are supposed to use any kind of plastic for gas. Use metal.

I already called a couple of plumbers, but they wouldn't tell me without making a site visit that would cost me.

no, you can't use PVC at all for gas. You can use the yellow poly pipe though.

I think that's what it is...most plumbing suppliers stock it...

what color is the main you are talking about?

You don't need a plumber, you need to call Hank Hill.

Or you could use:

API 5L - Steel pipe

ASTM A53 - Steel pipe

ASTM D2513 - Thermoplastic pipe and tubing

When purchasing PE plastic pipe, the pipe must be marked ASTM D2513. Plastic pipe with this marking is the only PE pipe suitable for gas service.

Plastic pipe and tubing should be protected at all times from damage by crushing, piercing, or extended exposure to direct sunlight.

The riser is gray, and the service line is yellow polyethylene. I'm trying to replace the connection from the meter to the house without having to get iron pipe fabricated.

Hell no to PVC.
Use that yellow line or steel pipe.
