Honestly area code is very easy to make it look official so don't give people with 979 any more leeway than other #'s.

If people reach out to you have them reply on the thread and should be able to see how legit they are. If someone just hasn't ever posted here before I would be EXTREMELY cautious.

True, 979 area codes could be faked.

But if a unknown person with an Iowa area code contacts you from your WTB post saying they have A&M tickets tickets to sell, that's a big red flag.

Tons of Aggies have area codes not local to Texas, just saying I wouldn't put any confidence in any area codes. That should be way down the list to even think about.

I have too many examples on this very board with area codes from South Carolina, Miami, Alabama, and now Iowa not to consider it.

And I have a bunch of ones with 979/281/361 etc - they intentionally use those to fool people. Hence why you shouldn't give them any credence.
