If we had any chance of getting long and triple jump phenom from Texas Jasmine Moore to be an Aggie that had since gone away as some time ago she announced her top 7 schools. Not even one Texas school in her top 7. Over the years she has always aspire to be an Aggie until this year. Even as far back when she was a freshman in 2016

She doesn't waste any time. She already has her sights set on a short list of colleges, including Michigan, Florida State, Southern Cal, Duke and Texas A&M.

Her Top 7 choices
Florida State
Florida
LSU
USC
Oregon
Georgia
Kentucky

Honestly I think we have done better than many of these schools in jumps. But that is just me.
I am wondering if she will now consider the Longhorns since she made her top 7 seven choice, Foreal has since left Kentucky for Texas.

I think barring serious injuries as in 2018, the track team is set to send a statement to the Track and Field world in 2019.

I will continue to say while all the big names continue to go to other schools, A&M has continued to developed averaged athletes and make them great. Look at Jasmine Fray, Jaevin Reed and more recently Julia Madubuike (54+ to 52.42 in 400m in one season) and Ciynamon Stevenson etc

Time to start winning championships again. Lets get it in 2019

Seems like Georgia will be the choice based on that list and their recent field performances

Lauren Rain Williams is transferring from Oregon to USC. She initially committed to USC in November of 2016, but switched her commitment in April 2017 to head to Eugene.

Lots of transfers from Oregon
All-American distance runners Katie Rainsberger, Lilli Burdon, Tanner Anderson and Mick Stanovsek are no longer on the Ducks' roster, having asked for and been granted their release from Oregon. Incoming freshman Josh Hoey is also not listed on the roster, while fellow freshman Brodey Hasty was released from his commitment to the Ducks and will attend Northern Arizona University in the fall.

Hurdler Masai Russel who committed Texas A&M last year and then decommitted from Texas A&M for Tennessee. She has now decommitted from Tennessee for University of Kentucky before her freshman year

Just wondering if anyone is leaving us for another school or anyone transferring to us.

I'd bet those distance runners are following their coaches to UW.

Obi Igbokwe transferred from Ark to UH.

Rough summer for Tennessee: Freshman-to-be Eric Allen from The Bullis School who had committed to Tennessee has switched to USC. Duncanville hurdler Noah Green, who had signed with Kentucky, is also going to USC.

Vernon Turner, stud high jumper from Oklahoma, is transferring to Arkansas.

As far as the Aggies go, 1:46 800-meter runner Carlton Orange should now be eligible to compete after transferring from Arkansas last summer. Will be interesting to see if there is any other movement.

Cross country will start practice this week. First meet is less than three weeks away!

What is really weird is that both Southern Cal And Tennessee have already posted their 2019 track rosters...and each lists Eric Allen!!

Haven't ever looked at this board before. Actually clicked on here by accident, but I was intrigued to see recruiting discussions for our track team as well as a cross country discussion.

Both of my boys run track and CC, but my youngest dominated Jr Hi CC last year, and he ran right under a 5 minute mile as a 7th grader. His best 2
Miles for CC (jr hi level7th and 8th graders) was a 10:46. He loves to run and has the drive to get better, but I was just wondering if his times are good enough at this age to work towards running in college.

His times are pretty good for his age group. Looks like he would finish about 15th in his age group at the AAU Jr Olympics Games.

Just for reference the male scholarship distance runners at A&M come in with mile times between 4:10 and 4:20. Remember track and cross country give out partial scholarships.

I agree, the times are good for his age group, and having a goal is a positive thing, but I tend to err on the cautious side with young runners for a couple of reasons, puberty and injury being the two biggest ones.

Some young fellows mature early and run lights out in middle school to freshman year and then struggle as their body continues to grow. The plus side of this growth is that they get stronger, but depending on how their body is changing, it can be a rough ride. Times may plateau and then a runner may think, "I need to train harder," which may not be the issue at all. A lot of how this turns out depends upon the runner, the coaching staff, and the parents.

Other young fellows have great times and continue to improve throughout high school. Sometimes their physical growth is moderate and evenly paced and sometimes not, but it's one of those things that can be tricky to predict.

Personally, and this is just my opinion mind you, if he truly enjoys running then by all means continue to do so, run XC & track at school and train with his teammates. He (not Mom or Dad) can open up a dialogue with the coaches regarding an interest or prospects on running post high school but mostly should be focusing on his training and academics because that is how he best helps himself and the team at this point. Collegiate running is fun, but it is work, and I hate to see students place so much pressure on themselves that they burn out before they ever get a chance to enjoy the best of what running has to offer them. *note, I'm not saying this is your situation, you know your child best*

Best of luck to him and I hope he has a great year and makes some memorable moments.

He has talent and if he enjoys running he should definitely pursue it. It is too early to get too worried about how he stands on the national level versus other runners, particularly as a male athlete. The number of Junior Olympic Champions in the pre-high school age groups that either don't run collegiately or are mediocre is quite high. The rate of maturity and over-zealous coaching of younger runners often leads to success when young and then burnout, injury, and athletic limitations take hold. Of course there are some athletes who were very successful at a young age that go on to be successful but I assure you there are way too many variables for runners at his age to accurately project whether he will be successful enough to run collegiately. The best distance runners enjoy running for the sake of running more than obsessing over times.

Big time transfer from Ohio State. Syaira Richardson has transferred to Texas A&M having spend her freshman year at Ohio State University. She has a 400m PB of 52.25. She will definitely boost our 4x400m women relay team next year with Jaevin Reed, Julia Madubuike, Tierra Robinson-Jones, Syaira Richardson and Danyel White. We actually have one 51 plus and three low 52 quarter milers.

Thanks for all of the responses.

Rea runs because he loves it. It's not work yet, and I have never seen a child pace himself like he does. Like an innate ability to know when to hold back and when to push.

He hasn't been challenged in actual races yet, so as the competition gets better it will be fun to watch how he responds.

He has just gone through puberty and quite a few growth spurts without any negative reactions.

I love to run also, so I hope his love continues. He is a crazy, rabid Aggie fan, so right now his dream would be to run for the Ags. I know how big a long shot that is, but how fun would that be!

I will stay on the board and update if anything exciting happens with his training or times.

Thanks again. Love that I found a spot to follow A&M Cross Country and track. Good stuff!

Agreed. Your son does appear to be a very talented and naturally gifted athlete, however at this age I too would suggest having him simply focus on general enjoyment of the sport rather than specific times or rankings among others his age. His development will come naturally with time, growth, and experience as a runner.

FYI.... I did not discover running until my sophomore year in high school and graduated with personal bests of 4:30/9:40 which were good enough to allow me an opportunity to walk on *at Texas A&M* and eventually develop into a scholarship athlete. My passion for the sport continues to this day as I currently compete as a top local elite runner competing in various road races (5K-Marathon).

Provide him an opportunity to develop and nurture his passion for the sport now and watch his running career blossom later.

Georgia is getting many of the top recruits in sprints, hurdles, jumps and multi-events. Many Texas athletes have gone to Georgia. They are really developing into a track powerhouse. They must have the no 1 recruiting class this year

As expected Jasmine Moore goes to Georgia. She has always considered A&M until this year. The recent dominance by Georgia in the field events and Lynna Irby in the 400m and 200m last year have all the top recruits running to Georgia. Georgia would have No1 recruiting class for sure. Floreal at Texas not doing too bad either with already 11 recruits.
Boys No 1. recruit Brian Herron is expected to announce on Saturday. He is considering A&M and USC as well
His PB
100 Meter Dash 10.75
200 Meter Dash 20.93
400 Meter Dash 46.07

Victoria De La Garza daughter of A&M coach De la Garza signed with A&M

Just so people know - Arkansas has been ahead in track facilities for years and is going ahead with even more...

https://5newsonline.com/2018/11/15/arkansas-board-of-trustees-approves-new-facilities-for-baseball-track/

Quote:

Arkansas Board Of Trustees Approves New Facilities For Baseball & Track

The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees approved the construction of three athletic related capital projects, a Track and Field High Performance Center at John McDonnell Field, a renovation and expansion of the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center and a Baseball Performance Center at Baum Stadium, as part of the agenda of their regularly scheduled meeting held Thursday in Fort Smith. The Board also approved the selection of architect/engineer design and construction manager/general contractor teams for the facilities.
The projects will be funded entirely by athletic revenues, gifts, and bond proceeds from a future bond issue. No University funds will be required to complete the projects. Fundraising for all three projects is ongoing and the Razorback Foundation is close to solidifying lead gifts for each of the facilities.
"As we continue to focus on student-athlete success, we are pleased to be moving forward on three important projects to further support student-athletes in some of the most successful sports programs at the University of Arkansas," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek said. "Our baseball and men's and women's track and field programs consistently compete for SEC and national championships and we want to provide our student-athletes the resources they need to succeed. We are appreciative of the support of our Board of Trustees, President Don Bobbitt and Chancellor Joe Steinmetz on these projects and the continued pursuit of our vision To Be the Best."
The approximately 20,000 square foot Track and Field High Performance Center will be constructed just south of the track at John McDonnell Field. Based on the feasibility study, the total project cost of the facility is currently estimated at $8-$10 million. Hufft (Bentonville) will work with AECOM (Kansas City, Missouri) on the design of the facility. Flintco (Springdale and Tulsa, Oklahoma) will be the construction manager and general contractor on the Track Performance Center.
The Randal Tyson Track Center will undergo an extensive renovation and expansion. The total project cost of the Randal Tyson Track Center Renovation and Expansion is currently estimated at $15-20 million. Polk Stanley Wilcox (Fayetteville and Little Rock) and Populous (Kansas City, Missouri) will lead the design team on the Randal Tyson Track Center Renovation and Expansion while CDI Constructors LLC (Fayetteville and Little Rock) will serve as the general contractor.

The stadium is almost complete and the recruits are still not coming. I thought having a new track for next year would help.
We should at least have a few descent track recruits by now (only Lance Boone). They are still leaving the state of Texas and going elsewhere.
All of the top track schools have already signed very good recruits. USC, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Arkansas, Texas etc
Check Milesplit College signing class 2019
Anyway the coaches here would take average recruits and make them great. Also they would have all the scholarship available for the late boomers.

Not worried yet. We haven't heard about any international recruits, but it would be nice to have some big time US recruits. I would like to see the staff take a more active roll on social media. McRaven is the coach active on it; otherwise, the staff seems like a bunch of old, out of touch guys.

I agree 100% and the twitter account don't even acknowledges the visits and the signings.

Check all the other schools track twitter accounts. They welcome the recruits whether the visits or signings. Nothing so far from aggietrk twitter even though we have signed a few persons.

The world have gone ahead on social media and we are still in an old time warp

I wouldn't get too down on the Ags. They had a very nice mix of U.S. & international signees within the last year (Jamal Walton, Tahar Triki, Nick Mirabelli, C.J. Stevenson, Robin Nool, Maya Evans, Syaira Richardson, Tierra Robinson-Jones) and they made a run on practically all the state's top female cross country runners a year ago (Black, Fish, Fairchild, Santoro). Some of the first group did not even sign until the spring or summer (Walton, Stevenson, Nool, Richardson).

There's no question Georgia whipped everyone in recruiting on the women's side this fall but that doesn't mean A&M won't end up with a solid class. Some kids, for whatever reason, go with whoever is hot (UGA, USC) and don't choose to see the body of work of a program or staff.

You also have to keep in mind that for the first time ever the signing period no longer ends which means A&M could be adding athletes at any point for the remainder of the year. There is no rush to get them in by this week. It could just be that some are still deciding since there is no rush. It isn't like football where everyone signs their NLI's on day 1 then it's over. We just have to be patient and continue to watch it play out.
