I read an article last week about our 5000 meter runner. I don't remember his name, but he was supposed to be competitive at the NCAA meet. I haven't seen any mention of how he did, or even if he ran. Does anyone know about this?

You're referring to Tommy Bonn. Brent Zwerneman wrote a feature on tommy for the SA Express News. He ran a respectable 14:16.74 but was three places from reaching the final.
