There is a very interesting article in todays USA Today concerning an investigation by the NCAA of some foreign players who may be professional. There are a number of college coaches quoted, including Coach Cass and Coach Knoll. If I had the sense to post a link I would, but it can be found in the on line version of USA Today. This seems to support Rockets earlier post that it could be an interesting week in Waco.

Raven thanks for the heads up... I will look it up. I think the days of foreign professionals playing in college are close to being over. Knoll is in trouble an I will be surprised if he keeps his job. At the very least he will be hamstrung to be competitive within the conference. IMO Baylor should have to forfit every game that becker and dortch have played. Oh well we will see. I will be in Athens this weekend ....hope to see you then.

Yesterday, Matt Knoll was named the Wilson Intercollegiate Tennis Association ITA)South Central Region Coach of the Year. Congratulations Coach Knoll!

If Baylor used illegal players, it should have to forfeit those players' wins.

Same goes for the Aggies and every other team that has foreign players, players that have played in professional tournaments, etc.

Compare this situation to some of the recent European basketball players that have been popping up at the D-1 level. For example, Texas Tech recruited a couple out of JUCOs. Questions came up about one of them having played in a professional European league. The NCAA suspended them for a game or two then they were allowed to play.

i hope they have to forfeit matches they played in, then we could be in athens too. we knew about the possibility of them being suspended, and i was hoping it would happen during regionals, not the week after. i still think it will be hard for the ncaa to pull the trigger during the final week of ncaa's. there is not enough hard evidence. they were turned in a while back and still nothing has happened, but an article in the usa today, is a big deal.

Bearcat not all foreign players make the big money on german club teams. Players such as Ante Mateavic and Jean Simon enrolled right out of high school at age 18-19. Baylor has players who have made 50 K a year min to play on club teams and are well into their 20s. Evidence will prove out. And if knoll is blameless why did he refuse to answer questions for USA today???Inquiring minds want to know.
The Bears are dirty and knoll is the one to blame. It will all come out and when it does it will shake up college tennis. It is time for the field to be leveled and the perps to be punished. By the way...knoll is not the only perp in this. The list will be long and illustrious.
....time is on the side of those who do it the right way and that includes a large number. The good news for baylor fans is that when it does come down and if/when knoll is fired it makes for a great future. The baylor facility is magnificent and with the right coach can be built into one of the elite programs...

Here is plenty of reading material from the last two weeks on the subject. You may have to register to see some of it, but it will be well worth your time.

Of course they're on top of it. The NCAA is breathing down their neck and they don't want what happened at the women's NCAAs to happen to them.

Papp's hand must be feeling better. He got beat 6-1, 6-1 today to Alabama. The only negative point.

It's Baylor's job to declare its athletes eligible or not. Then it becomes the NCAAs job to see if the school was right or not. Case, not closed.

Papp's hand's feeling better than the A&M team's hands are feeling right now.

In fact, Baylor last week retained the law firm of Fulbright and Jaworski to re-examine a range of eligibility criteria on the players. More importantly, Stricklin said, the school retained the services of their Munich office to help with language and cultural differences in the investigation.

LMAO at that one. Yep, its in the "normal, everyday scope" of Baylor's business to hire Fulbright & Jawarski at $450/hour to determine its player's eligibility. Bear, try and spin that!

I am sorry the Big XII did not do better in the team tournament. That said, it is probably just as well that Baylor did not go forward. Hopefully the NCAA will get this mess cleared up and Baylor can run a program that is not viewed as an "outlaw" by most college coaches. There is no reason Baylor can't have a top program. Coach Knoll can coach, they have a great new facility, and they are located in a region where you can play tennis year round.

Raven...you and I would be great coaches with his players. Bye the way ...knoll looks sick. He is thin and looks like a guy with the weight of the tennis world on his shoulders. Someone said that all knoll needs now is a floppy hat and a late model luxury car to complete the look...

Rocket: I guess we should get on the same thread. The heat may be really turning up on this situation. I don't know when the final card will be played, but I would assume before too much longer. I guess we will all have to stay tuned.

I don't feel a need to defend an unsubstantiated allegation.

As for you hiding your diploma, I would expect nothing less.

No doubt Baylor was breaking the rules anymore. Playing pros on the tennis team will quickly come to the media's attention during the spring. I bet Baylor's squad looks a lot different next year.

I have to say my favorite thing about Baylor is at the big 12's in KC. Bene D is ranked #2 in the nation and Becker is #30 or so? It seems kind of out of control when Newp kicked Bene D's ass once, and then they move him to play lester and he gets it kicked again. I know Becker is a hell of a player but thats pretty sad. Expecially when Bene D made it to the finals of NCAA, but still plays #2 for them at big 12? Also what about Igor their #6 guy, ranked up at like 97 and plays 6 behind nonranked players. Might I add he is a year older than Ante. Stacking Nazis'!!!
