Jill Weynand of Frisco struck out nine over five innings to lead her team to victory in the Texas Girls Coaches Assn All-Star Game played in Mansfield. Brenham's Kristin Gunter had an RBI for the winning team. Jill and Kristin are recruits for the A&M softball team. This was reported in the 7/10/02 DMN (hard copy, sorry, no link). If Jill is THE softball pitcher I've been hearing about all year, then .... WOW!!! ... that IS a great recruit. Another Cat Osterman, maybe?????

Comparing Jill to Cat Osterman is probably a little bit much, but she is a quality recruit. She was the winning pitcher in the all star game over a young lady from Coppell who has signed with Oklahoma. Given our record, recent and otherwise, against Oklahoma in softball, having a recruit that competes well against an Oklahoma recruit looks like a step in the right direction.
