Really a great tennis match. Smart move on Cass part to put From at two knowing that he couldnt finish. Good Stratigy and almost worked. Calls went both ways and overrules the same. Gubser and El Dorry played a great match. Not much difference in these two teams really. Cook missing the sitter volly at one dubs to win the doubles point was critical and proved decisive.

Will play again at big 12 maybe...beat the bears please...

You guys are being sore losers. If you want to build a great program in college tennis dont whine when you lose. We lost twice to you last year and didnt whine about it. You had better players. Complaining about the officiating and the over rules smacks of sour grapes. We won today and their will be other times. Name calling is rediculus. For the most part the calls went both ways. Teams are very even and aggie 11 you need to calm down. There were 700 t0 800 at the match today and they got their moneys worth. College tennis won today and their will be more to come.

Raven were you at the match today? Thought that atm not converting the the doubles point would be the difference. Felt like we were better at 1-2-6 going in with 3 being a toss up...yu guys were going to win at 4 and 5 no matter what. If cook makes the sitter volly you win 4-3. Lots of tennis to be played this year. Good luck vs the cheatin baylor bears..

rockethorn sounds very defensive. i'm not calling any names, and i'm not whining. the teams were dead even, and both played well. yes, #1 dubs choked on 2 match points. it shouldn't have ever been in doubt. however...

regardless of whether or not you will admit to it, calls were greatly in favor of the horns(which i semi-understand, since it was in austin). newp was screwed late in the third when simon hit a 100+ mph serve that was so close that newp had no choice but to play it, and then simon stops in the middle of the point to appeal to the judge, and the judge overruled and called it in and gave the point to simon. this gave simon a 40-15 lead instead of a 30 all tie, if i remember correctly. not only was this poor judgement, since the serve was so hard and newp had the best view, but it is also EXTREMELY rare for any shot that is called in to be overruled and called out. i've seen lots of college and competitive junior tennis, and i've never seen it happen.

however, this call pales in comparison to khaled getting hooked at 4-4 in the third. khaled was right on top of the ball and could have returned it if he needed to, and he called it out. gubser halfheartedly appealed as the horn fans screamed and booed, and the judge changed the call. it's only one point, but any competitive tennis player knows how that can change a match. both teams played hard today, and though we shot ourselves in the foot on at least two occasions, it is a shame that a few bad calls decided the match.

like you said, it was a good match regardless, and we'll meet again in the tourney, on OUR home court. and thanks, we'll need some luck for the baylor match.

p.s. sorry, but spare me the sore loser crap...i've been hooked in lots of big matches and know how bad it sucks. had the above calls been the correct ones i would admit it, because the game of tennis is one where honesty is paramount, and is cheapened when cheating occurs.

p.p.s poor aggies was very classy, expecially at a tennis match. if you must be juvenile, save it for the football field.

That was a great match but I thought the calls were INCREDIBLY close on both sides. I have never seen more close calls in one day. The doubles point was alot of fun and the ags should have converted one of those 3 match points at number one doubles. Number 6 singles was a dogfight too and that overule by the ump at 4-4 was crucial because instead of being up 40-15, it was 30-30 and El Dorry ended up losing that game and then the final set 6-4.

Overall the ags fought increadibly hard especially the young fresh Cook at 3 singles. Newport was fun to watch too coming back after it looked like he quit in the first set. Ande's match was intense as well, he beat that player mentally more than physically. How good does it feel to have that freshman strength at 3 and 4? tu's number 5 singles player and 3 doubs player should be on the lady whorns team instead of the men's team, that guys sucks and has ugly game.

The ags take that match 5-2 in aggieland. Be the way, tu's crowd was horrible. Their best yells were 'aggie suck' and 'poor aggies.' Those type of yells by idiots wearing no shirts in the front row is the first thing i think about when I think of tu spirit.

The ags had alot to feel good about today and they have done well this year even though it seemed like a rebuilding year at the begininng. Thats all, I'm out.

It was a great match but the fans were an absolute disgrace.Their profanity and especailly what was said to the Aggie Volleyball players should be an embarrassment to you - RH - and the school.

I drove over with my kids to see the match, and overall it was a great day of tennis. The biggest joke of the day is the fat goofball idiot that they have for their announcer. He sounds like a drunk circus announcer (that was the remark of the texas fan sitting next to me) and holds him microphone up against a boom box to play "the song we LOVE SO WELL". I asked another mom who he was and she said he definitely did NOT work for tu, but was an "embarrassing old tennis fart who won't give up being part of the game. He is worst part of coming to our matches". That along with the t-sip tennis players who weren't in the match telling our volleybally girls that they "suck" made the day about what we expected from texas. I will be glad when the horns come to A&M for the Big 12 tournament......

It was a fun day in Austin. I went over on the 12th Man Foundation bus from College Station and we had a great time. Kudos to 12MF for getting that together. The fans were, as a group, very cordial. Other that a group of students that got into the Poor Aggies and telling the volleyball team that they sucked, most fans were just fine. I got to visiting with a couple from Round Rock with their kids and they were very nice.

The announcer post from Maggie made me laugh.... As that nutty guy came on to announce the teams and lead the "eyes of Texas", this couple's kids excitedly asked if they could do the "L". Thinking it was a slam at the Aggies, I asked what the "L" was. He said that his kids liked to "hook em" with one hand and make an "L" for loser with the other hand on their forehead in honor of the announcer when he started his act. I noticed several other young people doing that in the stands and it was pretty funny. Each venue has its own character - in one way or another.

Rocket: I was at the match yesterday. All in all a great college tennis match. I agree that at the end of the day it was our inability to capture the doubles point that was the difference. I had been worried about Keith all week, but by Thursday he thought he could go. It was obvious Saturday he was very limited, at best.I thought that Texas got a little better of the calls, and that is probably to be expected playing at home. The call in the third set at number six was pretty hard to take as Khaled was in perfect position to make that call.As one Big XII official told me after the match..."We all make mistakes from time to time. You just hope that they don't determine matches." I don't know if that call determined the match or not, but it was certainly crucial at the time. Grousing about calls is certainly part of the game, but great teams find a way to overcome some of the strange things that happen on the court. We simply did not get it done a couple of times and it cost us in the end.

There is a lot of tennis left to be played. We have a hard week, going to Nebraska on Monday, getting Oklahoma State here Thursday evening, and then Baylor on Saturday. With regards to the Bears, I find it interesting that they are put on probation, lose a scholorship, and get better all at the same time. Somebody is doing something right (or wrong) over in Waco.

For now, congratulations to Texas on a great win, and we look forward to seeing you in College Station for the Big XII championship and hopefully for the NCAA's.

I would like to start off by saying that I am sorry that many of you feel the way you do. I thought that the 4 1/2 hours of tennis found two teams fighting just as hard as they could to win and in the end one team won the match but the other was far from defeated. ATM is a top tennis program and I look forward to many great matches in the future. The crowd at the match was for the most part partisan and rooting for their team hard. I can honestly say that I believe the players showed great sportsmanship for as hard as the match was played. I would expect the same if we meet again in BCS. College Tennis is the big winner with the support the two schools give their programs. Good luck this week.

SA68AG ...I was unaware of the comments that you refer to. If so it is regretable. Sometimes the heat of the moment causes some to forget why they are there. Had I heard them I would of taken steps to see that it not happen again.

Raven...are you aware of the conference rule that addresses a three way tie for the title?

PS...maaggie...I am working on the weight problem. Any diet programs you have in mind please send along...thanks

horn, no one is doubting that both teams played great. no one is doubting that the majority of fans were great. no one is doubting that college tennis is great. no one is whining, we just know the calls were a little skewed.

but it doesn't matter because we're confident that we'll get scoreboard back on our home courts, on our way to the conference tourney championship. of course it will be tough, but we know we're capable, as are t.u. and baylor. we'll just have to let the guys play it out.

so kindly drop it, and we'll expect you to invade the board again around april 24.

have a nice day.

This is funny since the A&M volleybally team has dominated the lady horns...That is typical for horns if they aren't better start insulting them.

Plus the head idiot cheering and being rude was domanski...I guess he has been demoted to head cheerleader for the horn tennis team, since he got his ass kicked in baylor. Plus, did yall see those guber hellraisers on the front row I have never seen a bigger bunch of dorks.... Raven I have a buddy that goes to baylor and went to that match .. He says yall got your asses kiced fair and square so please do yall your crying on hornfans.com not here nobody cares..

Aggie 11: Last time I checked I was on the A & M bus Saturday. I don't doubt that Baylor played better than Texas. We will have to play our best match of the season to beat Baylor this Saturday, but I surely think that it is possible.

Rocket: I don't know about the three way tie rule. All of our guys have left for Lincoln, but I will check it out in the next day or so.

aggie11 you are out of line, first of all learn to spell!!!! Domanski will give you a lesson for free anytime you want!
Maggie- you have no class talking about anybody's physical appearance. I wonder what you look like. In addition, that announcer is a big part of the whole tennis program and i am sure the team is very happy having him up there. He loves college tennis, we just need more people like him in the sport.
I was at the match and the match was great. There were some close calls by the umpires, not by the players and that is the way it is all the time. If you guys want to blame it on the umpires then feel free. At least we don't have score keepers that change the score on the other team.
(tcu at A&M 2001)

You guys have some class acts on your team like Skube, he was too good for Drew on Sat. but you will see a lot of Drew in the next few years and wish he was wearing maroon.

I don't usually read chat room boards but I was told about some of the comments made about our team. First of all, if one of our players ever made a derogatory comment to a member of the volleyball team he will be reprimanded. I have already met with Michael Domanski and he denied the comments. If aggie 11 still feels that the comments were made please give me the players names and I will conduct a search myself. We don't conduct ourselves like that at Texas.

In reference to the rest of the comments I guess I am new to this aggie/lonhorn rivalry. Tim Cass is a friend of mine and we have competed many times with each of us winning his share. A&M has a terrific team and program. I expect many great matches in the future. However, calling Roger Gubser a ***** and a cheater crosses the line. He was named the Texas Section Player of the Year for his play, but most of all for his character. One of the finest people you will ever meet. Let me remind you that he is 18 years old.

Complaining about the fans and calls is normal in any rivalry. I thought the play was hard and fair. Both sides felt a call could have there way in critical situations. When you play for 4 1/2 hours with 2 or 3 overrules that is a pretty clean match.

I posted this comment because I will be here for awhile and hope we can have a good rivalry. You can also e-mail me if we are ever out of line. Please refrain from comments about the players. They are young men who play for the fun of it. Our kids graduate and and become productive members of society.

See you soon. Please e-mail me with any concerns and you can also forward a diet plan for Ron. He is trying to get in better shape. I assume the people who are critizing him are marathon runners.

Just for the record, Drew Hoskins or whatever his name is sucks hard and I will never hope he is an aggie. EVER! He looks like he should be in 14's with that candy serve. He was totally carried by Will in doubs and they still lost! That guy needs to be pulled and it is a total stack playing him ahead of Roger. If the stack is fixed, the ags win that match.

oh really suag, is that right? why don't you check this year's results from the beginning and see where lester cook plays? yet he was playing #3 against us while a hurt player played 2? hmm, interesting. you guys on here have absolutely no class and have a hard time with defeat apparently.

if people were chanting poor aggies, then that is regrettable and i apologize for my fellow students. however, you guys attacking our players on interenet boards like hounds shows what a bunch of...well, whatever you are. 78-9.

that said, i would like to say how impressed with the job that coach cass has done. he has really brought aggie tennis to national respect and those guys are a force. good luck the rest of this spring.

I think Gubser and Hoskins should play for st.eds. They would proably have better results. It's ironic that when the Whorns come to College Station they will be treated with respect and dignity something they don't deserve.

can i get your email coach? would just like to talk tennis and ask if you know a few people. just want to clarify that my beef is not with the players, as i have seen them play often in high school and juniors and even met a couple of them before.

i thought there was one overrule in particular by the ump that definitely shouldn't have been made given the circumstances(ball and players' locations on the court, score in the game, set, and match, etc), and i'm pretty sure you know which one i'm talking about. but #1 dubs should have made this all a moot point anyway. at any rate, it was a great match, and there will be many more just like it as long as you and cass are at the respective helms. if you don't wanna post your email here, shoot it to me at txag731@yahoo.com. thanks and gig 'em!

As classless as the Texas fans were to the Ags and the Volleyball players, the personal attacks on Rocket Horn are just as classless. Frankly I wish the people on this site would grow up.
In terms of calls and overrules, I spoke with a former college player who didn't play for either A&M or Texas and was just there to see a good match. He had a good view of the point in question and thought the overrule was a good call. In fact he thought our number six made several questionable calls. He also thought the Texas player at number 3 hooked Cook every chance he got. he alos thought It kind of went both ways.
It's unfortunate that people can't simply talk tennis here but have to resort to name calling. I'ts a poor reflection on themselves and their school.

OK...I haven't posted in a long while and most of it is beacuse of stuff I have read here. Let me just throw in my 2 cents worth on a couple of things about the A&M/Texas match.

First and foremost....Coach Center is a class act! He's not a horn, he's just a coach. He and Cass have been friends for a long time and he has tried to bring some respect back to the Texas tennis program. Many of you have probably not had the chance to talk with him, but I was fortunate enough to have lunch with him and a few other people in Athens, Georgia a couple of years ago. He was very interested in the A&M/Texas rivalery and why there was so much hatred between the two schools. He expressed a desire to change that at tennis matches. However, Center can only control his players....he can't control the crowd. If one of his players was out-of-line, he will take care of it. Don't judge the man based on the team he coaches or the school he works for. Other coaches at Texas may fan the flames of hatred, but not Coach Center.

Second, RocketHorn is probably the nicest, most classy Texas poster on this board. He doesn't talk trash and he has the ablilty to take off his burnt orange glasses from time to time. Last year when we beat Texas here, he was very complimentary and looked forward to meeting us again in the Big 12's. Many on this board were very rude to him just because his handle has the word "Horn" in it. If RocketHorn says the match was a good match that could have gone either way, I take his word for it. I've been to the matches and read his posts afterward and he is very accurate in his discription.

We talk about how disrespectful Texas fans are when we go to Austin....but are we any better when they come here? Yes and No. I've seen some of our fans who go out of their way to make a comment to or about "those damn T-Sips," start booing or hissing just when someone walks by wearing burnt orange, or just generally be rude to anyone from Texas. I've also seen others welcome them to town, wish them a plesant stay and tell them they hoped they enjoyed the game. I saw both of these people firsthand after the tennis match here last year. We were under the tree at the picnic after the match and a coach and a few players were walking past. Some people hissed, some people made comments like "enjoy the ride back to Austin" and others did nothing but turn their backs to them. There were others that said, "Nice match, see you in the finals in Waco" and some were sincere when they said "Have a safe trip home."

It goes both ways people. We get what we deserve and so do they. It will never change unless we decide to change it. Same with the fans in Austin. However, having a coach like Center at Texas is a start.

I had hoped this thread would die, but reading Sherlock's post lured me back one more time. I think he is on point and said some things better than I could have. For that I thank him. From my point of view Coach Senter is part of the solution, not the problem. The Texas kids seem like good kids, kids you would be proud to have on your team. We even tried to get some of them to come to A & M, but they opted for Texas. The fans at both schools get very excited when we play each other, and this certainly rubs off on the players, as they are to some extent a product of all the people around them. If in the heat of the contest a player, a fan, or a coach looses his/her composure for a few minutes, that is no reason to label them a .......(fill in the word) for the rest of their life.

In the next few weeks the eyes of the college tennis world will be fixed on Texas A & M and College Station. We play home matches against Oklahoma State and Baylor this week, host the BiG XII championship the next week, probably host a Regional tournament in early May, and then the NCAA championship in mid-May. I hope our fans will turn out in record number to support our team, be the most vocal fans in the nation in support of our team, and at the end of the day be considered good hosts for all our visitors. We absolutely will see Texas at the Big XII, and I would certainly think they will make the final sixteen for the NCAA's. Playing great matches against your rival is one of the greatest things in college tennis, and with any luck we will play Texas at least one more time. Regardless of how anyone felt about the match in Austin last Saturday, I hope our fans we will meet the high standards that Coach Cass and Coach Senter have
set for themselves and their teams.

With reference to Rocket, I doubt if any of us have devoted as much time, expended as much energy, and spent as much money in support of our team as Rocket. There was a time last year when he and I had some discussion about his posts on another board, but the posts on TexAgs.com have almost always been on target. Whether we like it or not Rocket is a part of the Texas program. That is their call, not ours. I always look forward to what he has to say, and am glad he frequents our board.

I hope everyone can make it out Thursday, which will set up a crucial match with Baylor on Saturday. A large vocal home crowd Saturday might be just what the doctor ordered to get us over the top in arguably the biggest match of the year (at least to this point).
