I'm no expert on volleyball talent, however based on what I saw this year I would say that Melissa Munsch is the real deal! If she continues to improve the next 3 years I think the sky is the limit for this incredible talent.

I think she was a pleasant surprise this year. Seems like she is pretty athletic and has a nak for the middle

I know that Melissa came out of class 3A Columbus. Is volleyball similar to football in that for the most part Division 1 talent comes from the 5A and 4A levels, making MM an exception to the rule?

Yes and no.
Your kids at 5A schools are probably going to see better competition at the high school level.

However, CLUB is where a lot of kids are seen.
We are just getting ready for club season to kick off...and that is during the college off-season which allows the college coaches to attend the large tournies and see these kids in person. Less fortunate kids can get priced out of club sometimes. Most clubs run $1000 - $4000 (when you consider travel expenses too)

Also, some of these girls attend college camps, which makes it nice for coaches to see talent and work ethic for 3 to 4 days.

According to Melissa's bio:
Played club volleyball for Texas Elite ...Won the 2001 Easter Classic in Louisiana and place ninth in the 2000 Junior Olympics where she was named to the all-tournament team.

Texas Elite has a good program.

Thanks AGVBall. What is your opinion on our team next season since we lost so many senior starters?

I had a chance to see her play in Columbus High. Just because she comes from a 3a school don't mean anything. I went to a 1A school and seen talent that could compare with larger schools no matter what division or sport. I am glad to see she is proof of this.
