The Hamels acquisition was vital for Arlington.
Without Hamels' numbers, they are the 25th best rotation in MLB.
With Hamels, they're ~ 20th.
All of this is line with the area's sports philosophy: "The Metroplex -- we overpay for everything."

If true, then the Astros are likely headed for a nice 5 yr stretch.

These threads always seem weird to me. Rangers fans arguing the history of their franchise is better than the Astros is like Texan fans arguing their franchise is better than the Cowboys even including the Oilers. Both are just dumb arguments that no one outside the state takes seriously
