The movie has been getting rave reviews across the board. I've continually seen people I trust saying it's the funniest movie of the year. The quality of the movie had absolutely nothing to do with this.

Sony was not willing a risk a potential bad headline:

Can't blame theater chains for pulling it. As litigious as our society is, if an attack actually occurred then they would be on the hook for millions in lawsuits. Cinemark got sued by survivors of the Aurora theater shooting when there wasn't even an inkling of a threat.

Our society has made it nearly impossible for a theater chain to show this movie. But I don't feel sorry for Hollywood, they are complicit in helping to shape our culture into what it is.

This whole thing has been a PR nightmare for Sony, but I'm terrified of the precedent this sets. Will studios take on films that poke fun at controversial figures? Will any threat of a movie being released result in the film being cancelled? Not cool with this at all.

I mentioned it when this broke. Sony Japan was clearly worried since they got involved with changing the ending. They are within striking distance of NK, and I bet they are not willing to be the provocateurs.

As Americans, we need to secure bootleg copies, find a projector and blast it on every major cultural monument around the globe Yeezus-style.

Seth Rogen said 'nope' to Sony's plea to spare Kim Jong-un's life

Its a sad commentary on society that it would be left to lowly idiots like me to distribute the film. So, you are going to continue to talk ****, thanks for answering. Standing up (or caving in) to a dictatorship and aggressor is exactly what we are talking about here, numbnuts.

Also, guys - the decision by theater owners to pull the movie had NOTHING to do with "safety" or even lawsuits. It's all about $$$$$. If the mouth-breathers are scared of an attack at their local theater, they won't show up to watch anything. To play The Interview would be bad business move all around. I still think it's a spineless, corporate move, but just know it had nothing to do with "responsibility" or "safety."

Just confirmed that the U.S. has, in fact, determined that North Korean leaders ordered the attack. Things are (somehow) about to get a lot more interesting.

Cyber attacks that can be attributed to nation states (with evidence) are frowned upon by other states. Take China, for example...They do not want to be affiliated with a cyber efficient north Korea because it begs the question of, "Where did north Korea a.) gain the applicable technology, and, b.) who gave them the training"?

China doesn't want its cyber capabilities known by the public because it would raise public awareness and limit their capabilities in the future.

It also causes a ton of advertising for "the interview", which wasn't there to begin with. When I saw the previews I thought it looked stupid as hell, but, you can be damn sure that if this ever comes out in theaters I will go and see it at least twice...just because I hate north Korea.

NYTimes: U.S. Links North Korea to Sony Hacking

quote:
Officials said it was not clear how the White House would decide to respond to NorthKorea. Some within the Obama administration argue that the government of Mr. Kim must be directly confronted, but that raises the question of what consequences the administration would threaten or how much of its evidence it could make public without revealing details of how the United States was able to penetrate North Korean computer networks to trace the source of the hacking.

"how so", indeed.
