In the middle of Texas A&M volleyball's SEC grind is a Wednesday night road match against seventh-ranked Texas in Austin. As the Aggies seek revenge on their rivals, head coach Jamie Morrison joined TexAgs Live to preview another important Lone Star Showdown.

Key notes from Jamie Morrison interview

  • Friday against Florida, I did not think we showed up as us, and I was pretty disappointed. We talked about the response that we wanted to see. We showed up as a completely different volleyball team, and that showed up against Arkansas. I couldn't be more proud of that.

  • I told the girls before the Arkansas match that I did not care about winning or losing but more about how they played and how it looked. I would be proud if we played our game and lost every day of the week. We can't control how another team plays.

  • You have to play well, and you have not to give points to your opponent. That 25-6 set against Arkansas was a testament to that. We made every single play we were supposed to make. It is draining when another team has to fight and grind for every single point. That set was exactly that.

  • We are constantly pushing the envelope of what this program can be, and if we play like that, we can go really far later in the year.

  • You have to know when to be aggressive and when to play it safe. We are finding that line really well.

  • Logan Lednicky will go down as one of the greatest Aggie volleyball players ever. One thousand kills is a step toward cementing her legacy. What I am most impressed by is her ability to manage. Her game is continuing to evolve. She is really good. The crazy thing is she is not done yet. She has room to grow. She knows it. I am excited about what she is going to become.

  • If we play like we did on Sunday, we can beat everybody. I believe that. Texas is primed for a loss at some point. The SEC is bedlam this year. We are still in the mix to finish pretty high in the conference. If we beat Texas, we could be at the top of the conference.

  • I said before our match on Sunday that it is about us. Then, we went out and proved that. If we play that style of relentless volleyball, we can beat Texas. When we set the attendance record against Texas, they wanted to play a match at the Moody Center. This rivalry is really good for the sport. The fact that we hold the attendance record for that match ruffled some feathers down the road.

  • We are around the top 20 in these RPI futures that are being put out. If we can push into the top 16, there is a chance we can host the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

  • Every single night, there is an upset in the SEC. It is a grind. The last eight matches will be a sprint to see who finishes on top.

  • It is huge to have Aggies in attendance in Austin tomorrow. Our fans are rowdy and vocal, and it means a lot to hear their support. I think this is one of the best rivalries in sports and a fun environment.
