2026 Mesquite Horn S Markel Ford finds College Station 'welcoming'

Mesquite (TX) Horn 2026 safety Markel Ford‍ was back in College Station today. Since receiving his offer from Mike Elko and staff in December, he has taken a few visits to Texas A&M. 

He visited in January for Junior Day, and he returned this spring to watch practice. Today, he made the trip with Mesquite Horn assistant Larry Wheeler and 2027 teammate Ja'varris Williams‍, and he was able to see something new while in town.

What did you really want to get out of this visit to College Station?

I went down there, and I got to see the dorms and the apartments. It was something I haven’t really seen before. They had a rooftop pool at the apartments and a hangout area. I’m going to be back, for sure.

What stands out to you about coach Ish Aristide?

The intensity. The intensity was crazy. He runs me through everything too.

Was there anything he was really letting you know where you could make some big strides in your game?

Staying low. Staying low in my pedal and out of my breaks.

How did it feel to be back in Aggieland?

Like home.

What makes it feel like home?

It’s hard to explain. It’s just so welcoming there.

I’m sure you have a busy summer schedule. What are some of your other big summer stops?

I don’t know yet, but I think I’m going to go to SMU on the 20th. A&M is next Saturday (June 15). I’ll probably go to OU.

Do you have a decision timeline?

I’m committing this summer for sure.

Are you starting to see your top schools come into focus?

Yes sir.

What stands out about your top schools?

Walking on campus, you just feel welcome everywhere. At the top five schools (Texas A&M, LSU, Oklahoma, SMU, and Texas) I have on my list they make you feel welcome and at home.

As a sophomore in 2023, Ford earned district defensive newcomer of the year honors after tallying 56 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, four interceptions and two forced fumbles. He is currently ranked No. 8 in the TexAgs 2026 Texas Top 25.
