On Saturday at Dickies Arena, Texas A&M failed to execute against Boise State, falling 86-71 in the Battleground 2k22. On Monday, Williams joined TexAgs Radio to shed some light on the neutral-site game and how the Aggies will respond moving forward.

Key notes of Buzz Williams interview

  • The good thing about our schedule is we have to be held accountable relative to what we are doing good and bad. We didn’t finish at the rim offensively, and that was one of the problems. Defensively, we fouled way too much. We are giving opponents 28 percent of their points at the free-throw line. It’s been a priority, but we haven’t made many corrections. We were fouling and putting them in the bonus way too quickly. We have to finish the possession with a rebound. We are staying in rotation too much. SMU and DePaul we finished at the rim at a good clip, but against Boise State, that broke us.

  • Wade Taylor had six steals at DePaul, and that’s great. We do force a lot of turnovers. Because of the aggressiveness we play with, we are going to foul. We have too many worthless fouls. We want to be in the bonus first. We want to defend without fouling because we are giving away too many fouls. From the NBA 3-point line to half court, we call the blue zone. We fouled too much in the blue zone. We will look at film of where were are fouling today.

  • We are going to get back to the basics. We have high school officials coming in on Wednesday, so we will have a scrimmage. This week and next week, we have time to concentrate on ourselves. We have to find ways to address the things hurting us.
