• Let me tell you; it was a pleasure to coach guys like Fred Smoot. There were two players in my career that stand out as having the mold of a true defensive back because all they do is talk, and they could get into the head of the receivers. Fred could do that very easily. He was a great player. He went off to pro ball and could go up against the best receivers in the NFL. I was fortunate to have some great defensive backs.
