Scattershooting the 2018 Texas A&M Football Signing Class: Part 1

February 9, 2018

Before Leon O'Neal re-committed to Jimbo Fisher on Monday, A&M's 2018 recruiting class ranked somewhere in the mid-30s. When Vernon Jackson's signature finally came across on Thursday, the Aggies had completed a remarkable Signing Day run all the way into the national top-15. The Ags meteoric rise grabbed headlines for two reasons on Wednesday. First and foremost, the Ags claimed one high-profile battle after another en route to closing out 8 of 9 legitimate targets.  Second? Most intelligent observers around the state, throughout the SEC footprint and from coast to coast (the Ags did sign players from California to Florida and from seven different states, after all) realized what they were watching:  An out-of-the-blue (to the doubters, at least) run on talent and the emergence of a new national recruiting power in the Southeastern Conference.
