John Sharp breaks down Michael K. Young finalist choice

The sole finalist for the position of President of Texas A&M University comes with a strong background in building "grand research universities." According to some involved in the search, there was no better fit.

Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp on Tuesday night indicated Texas A&M had pulled off a coup in landing Dr. Michael K. Young as the university’s next president and described him as a perfect fit for College Station.

“The guy came here, rented a Suburban and drove around to 7-11’s and talked to people — stuff like that,” Sharp said. “He’s not a snooty-type person at all.
