The Latest: 2014 Arlington Martin DE Myles Garrett

Last night, Arlington Martin and Arlington Bowie went head to head in a match up that wasn't a playoff game, but had a playoff feel. A share of the District 3-5A title was on the line, as was the opportunity to avoid a first-round match up with Southlake Carroll. Arlington Martin came out with the 47-18 win, and 2014 DE Myles Garrett and the rest of the Martin Warriors were named co-district champs along with Arlington Lamar.

Texas A&M landed the state's top-ranked senior when Arlington Martin DE Myles Garrett committed to the Aggies. Since his commitment, Garrett has ended the recruiting process and has tried recruiting other players to join the Aggies along with him. The defensive end cannot wait to get to Aggieland, but is focusing on his senior season as they head into playoffs.

On beating Bowie and being co-district champs…
“It feels great. This is the first time I’ve ever beaten Bowie while I’ve been playing. It was a great experience to have my team come together as a unit and play very well.”

On how he thinks he played…
“I don’t really get worked up on how I played individually. As long as we win I’m fine.”

On what he is working on before he gets to A&M…
“I’m working on my hands, working on my get off, being a leader around the guys, being vocal, and just working on being the best player I can be.”

On committing to Texas A&M and being done with the recruiting process…
“It feels great to know where I’m going. I was getting kind of tired of all the calls and all the letters. Now that it’s over it’s just smooth sailing from here.”

On making the decision to come to A&M…
“When it came down to it, A&M had a couple missing pieces on the defensive line. They needed those missing pieces and that’s what I can provide.”

On if A&M's defensive struggles motivate him…
“Oh absolutely. It’s very motivating. I can’t wait to help out.”

On talking with the A&M coaches…
“I still talk to the coaches consistently. We just talk about the impact I’m going to make with me playing defensive end.”

On if he will be at the Mississippi State game…
“No I won’t.”

On if schools have still tried contacting him even after his commitment…
“No, other schools haven’t been contacting me. The recruiting process is completely over for me.”

On getting to A&M…
“I’m so excited. I can’t wait.”
