Notes from Fort Bend ISD
I spent the last two days wrapping up my spring tour in Fort Bend ISD. Yesterday, I went by Kempner to see 2020 OL target Akinola Ogunbiyi and then to Bush to check in on Erick Young.I'll start with Young since he's in the current class. He played things very close to the vest. He was measured in what he said on record. LSU is making a big push of late, but it still sounds like they and Oklahoma are running behind the Aggies. Young will make a final three soon before announcing his commitment early this summer. One thing playing in A&M's favor is the Mays Business School. He said the staff did an excellent job showing him the ins and outs of Mays and how they work with student-athletes.At Kempner, I got the full run down on Ogunbiyi. He's a 15 year old sophomore who is related to Hakeem Olajuwon. His first trip to Aggieland a month or so ago was definitely a memorable one, too. He couldn't find a ride to College Station the day of his trip so he improvised and called an Uber. I have never heard of a kid doing that. Needless to say, that impressed the heck out of Jim Turner. A&M is an outstanding spot to land Akinola who said a decision could be coming soon. Today, I stopped by Hightower and Austin to finish my trip. Hightower CB Isaiah Essissima has seen his stock take off this spring. He's an undersized kid, but he's tenacious in man coverage and has really good change of direction abilities. The main reason for the trip though was to see recent 2020 OL offer Smart Chibuzo. Jim Turner is at Hall Stadium tonight to see Chibuzo's spring game. Texas will also be there. Like Ogunbiyi, Chibuzo could be nearing a decision as well. He wants to major in Petroleum Engineering, and the A&M staff made sure he understood what getting that degree at A&M would do for him post graduation. Lastly, 2020 Ft Bend Austin prospects WR Troy Omeire and OL Kendal Septs aren't looking to make any type of decision soon but both will visit College Station this summer. Omeire has a probable trip to Georgia lined up, and Septs told me he would definitely be at LSU as well during the break. Their head coach, Dan Schreiber, is an Aggie and has a son that just graduated from A&M. He accompanied Septs on his visit to College Station earlier this spring.
