Making a couple of stops in Mesquite today
I have been getting a little antsy to see a few prospects so I made my way to Mesquite Poteet this morning to check out a few underclassmen.Leading the group this fall are seniors Mekhi Garner (Texas Tech commit) and Jimmy Phillips (SMU commit), but the underclassmen are already stealing a bit of the spotlight. 2020 running back Seth McGowan (6-0, 200) is the brightest star of the young bunch and already holds offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Bowling Green, and Tulsa. I highlighted him earlier today in Around Texas, but I don't know that I did him justice. In addition to being a versatile weapon - he's a threat as a blocker, to line up at WR, to catch passes out of the backfield, and return kicks - he is also very intelligent. I'm talking No. 1 in his class kind of smart. This is a guy I could see jumping up into the conversation with Zach Evans and Jase McClellan for the top RB spot in the class.Joining him in the 2020 class is wide receiver Tristan Golightly. The 6-4, 190-pound receiver spent the summer with his AAU team, but is shifting his focus to football for the future. At practice today, he did a good job of extending his arms and catching the ball away from his body. He has a big, long, physical build, and it was easy to see he possesses some raw tools that will attract the attention of college coaches. The 2019 class includes three intriguing prospects who have yet to receive much attention. OLB Breshard Glaspie stands 6-2, 200 pounds and is drawing comparison to Deondre McNeal. ATH Cam Lampkin is a 6-0, 155-pounder who could log time at QB and WR. Lampkin brings a quick burst to the table and is a threat with the ball in his hand. CB Dorian Morris (5-11 160) has the makings of a standout CB. In addition to football, he's a track standout who runs the 100m, 200m, and 400m. He competes year round on the track and he qualified for state as a sophomore. This afternoon I'm stopping at Mesquite High and plan to post more about that here.
