Notes from East Texas - a few big stops today
First things first, I've been debating whether to rate DeMarvion Overshown as a safety or a linebacker, because at 6-3, 200-pounds I really wanted to see his frame. Well, after seeing him today I'm firmly in the safety department. I didn't get to see them workout today, but he looks like a two-guard with that long, lean frame. https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/866700015477116929Recruiting-wise, he named his top 15 last Thursday and the Aggies made the cut. He also is considering a few others right now, but he is planning to narrow his list to a top 10 by mid-summer, a top five before the season, and he wants to try and decide during the season.A&M has talked to him about the BBQ and he was non-committal about attending when I asked him about it today. He did make it to Friday Night Lights in April. Alabama and Clemson were the only two programs he knew he wanted to try and visit this summer, but he plans to check out his options this summer.Carthage was another big stop for me today with running back Keaontay Ingram being the priority. The big thing that came out of today's interview was him saying he planned to commit before the season. He also said he felt a couple of schools were standing out, but he was not ready to put that information out there. He is hopeful he can attend Texas A&M's BBQ*******************Now for some more fun stuff. In between my stops at Arp and Carthage was a stop at Marshall. OL Chasen Hines remains a target for the Aggies. Yesterday at the ETSN East Texas Combine he said he was firm to LSU, and I truly believe it will take a whole lot to change that. However, I would not be shocked to see him at least make a visit to Texas A&M. Just something to keep an eye on.Overshown's little brother Tren Jones (6-2, 160) received his first offer from Baylor and he has the same build as Overshown. He's a CB and WR for Arp. Marshall DE Marje Smith (6-6, 205) is another to watch. The Aggies have shown some interest and his build reminds me of Daeshon Hall. He was around 215 before he broke his wrist, which has been in a cast for about a month, and I could see him adding weight in a hurry once he gets to a college campus. The cast should come off around the first of June. Look for him to camp at A&M in July. He is also a basketball player too and played AAU with Team Texas last summer, but he's focused on football now.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/866721759843803136Two underclassmen to watch at Marshall are 2019 receiver DeKendrick Bender (6-0, 185) and 2020 QB JJ Green (6-3, 160). Head coach Claude Mathis felt both could be special, and he has seen plenty of talent over the years at Austin LBJ, DeSoto, and SMU.http://www.hudl.com/video/3/6367001/58160aee0aff7a88b4b672c3Carthage has a couple of 2020s who are already attracting attention OL Ty'Kieast Crawford (6-6, 285) and ATH Kelvontay Dixon (5-10, 160). Dixon is the younger brother of Keaontay Ingram and already holds scholarship offers from Texas, TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Colorado. Crawford does not have any offers, but he is a must watch prospect. He will be at Texas A&M's lineman camp in June.https://twitter.com/Jason_Howell/status/866846216780468225

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
