Some Wednesday afternoon recruiting notes
I've checked in with a pair of sources across the Sabine River on what's going on with Baton Rouge (LA) S Major Burns and his recent departure from the LSU class. This feels like another one that the Tigers have seemingly parted ways with much like they did with Alec Bryant, Jalen Lee, and Lorando Johnson, Jr. In terms of what it means for A&M, that's really hard to call. As many of you know, Burns was once committed to Texas A&M, and, despite flipping from the Aggies to the home state Tigers, has kept in touch with the A&M staff throughout his recruitment. My Louisiana sources did seem rather confident that Major would definitely be interested in once again joining the 2020 Aggie commit class, and one even felt like the kid had already reached out to the Aggie coaching staff. With the A&M numbers crunch and a specific set of needs still out there, it's just too early to figure where/how Burns would fit though. This is all fresh and new so it's a situation we will continue to monitor. - Still waiting on more intel, but I was told Jimbo Fisher's sit down with Donell Harris last night was extensive and productive. As of this afternoon, I still expect Harris to make his way to Aggieland for his official visit this weekend. Apparently, the Florida staff met and decided that they could not pass up a kid with Donell's talent and, thusly, have ramped up their efforts in the last 48 hours. - Bradley Dale Peveto and Mike Elko met with Covington (LA) LB Edgerrin Cooper last night. As I said on the radio/podcast today, if you told me that Cooper will sign with Texas A&M next week, I wouldn't fight you over it. It'd be hard to turn down that type of skill set at a position of need. If the Ags do end up nabbing him and Antonio Doyle to go with Kenneth Phillips down the road, you'd have to say it's been quite a two year haul for the Maroon and White at linebacker. - The reports emanating from the LSU side of things with Zach Evans are similar to what I heard last night. Nothing new though from me in terms of calling this one in favor of either side or even a gut feeling of momentum. Members of the A&M staff will be at the Houston TD Club Awards tonight where Evans is being honored as an offensive finalist.
