TexAgs High School Game Thread: Week Four
It's week four, and the TexAgs recruiting team is spread out across the Lone Star State to take in a few high school football games. Many of Texas A&M's top targets are in action this week. Check back here for updates throughout the weekend.
TexAgs Spring Tour: Rockwall
Thursday the stop was Rockwall to see the Orji brothers, Alston Orji and Anfernee Orji. The Aggies are very much in the mix for Alston. His strong relationship with coach Chavis is key and he also has a very good bond with Anthony Hines. He has been to College Station several times over the last couple years and he wants to visit some out of state options this summer. By out of state I don't mean Oklahoma, I'm talking about seeing some schools farther away like Notre Dame, UCLA, and Michigan. Alston does not have a definite timeline on making a decision but he does hope to make a decision before his senior year.Anfernee is starting to see his recruiting pick up and right now he is taking his time and evaluating his options. He is not declaring any leaders at this early point in the process. Texas A&M has not communicated much right now, but interest has been expressed. He's a top 25 prospect in the 2019 class and projects to S or LB. I think we'll see him grow into a LB. Both said they were not necessarily a package deal, and that they were evaluating what would be best for them as individuals. That said, I would say there's a good chance the two end up going to the same place just based on how these things tend to play out when there's mutual interest from all parties.A few quick thoughts-Rockwall's LB group is flat out nasty - In addition to the Orji brothers (if you count Anfernee in the mix) the Yellowjackets also have Oklahoma State 2018 commit Blake Barron, and under the radar 2018 LB Korrey Barron (6-0, 220). 2018 Desmond Williams has also transferred over from Rockwall-Heath. -The 2020 groups looks special WR Jaxon Smith (5-11, 175) is quick and shifty in the slot. He has top 20 in Texas type potential. Coach Webb is very high on the freshman playmaker. On the O-line keep an eye on OTs Ethan Fossier (6-5, 285) and Matt Joyce (6-5, 310). Both definitely pass the eyeball test and have some nice bend.-2019 QB Jacob Clark is another one drawing attention. He moved into Rockwall this spring from Overland Park, Kan. He is 6-5, 200-pounds and he can spin the ball. His recruiting is still in the early stages. I don't see him as an A&M option, but he's a prospect I think will make some noise on the camp circuit in the next few weeks.
