Notes from Hebron/Rockwall - Verone McKinley, Orji brothers, and more

So after yesterday got rained out I decided to get the work in early this morning and got it in just before the rain. Verone McKinley III went through his first scrimmage as a member of the Hebron squad and he was tasked with covering Rockwall standout WR Sam Crawford for most of his time. He did a pretty good job of keeping him under wraps for much of the contest. He did hear quite a bit of trash talk and he had more than a few words of his own. Afterward he was all smiles, and he had plenty of good things to say about Texas A&M.He said he talks to coach Joseph about every week and the Aggies are high up in his mind. Trimming his list has been on his mind and he's been talking to his family a lot. When he does make his cut he characterized A&M's chances of making the cut as "high, very high".in the past he has mentioned plans to visit Texas A&M for the Tennessee game. It looks like he will visit sooner than that though. He now plans to visit for the Texas A&M/UCLA game. He's not sure about visiting for the Tennessee game due to responsibilities to his team.**************After the scrimmage I also caught up with Rockwall standouts Alston Orji and Anfernee Orji. Alston mentioned visiting for the Texas A&M/Prairie View game, but he was not sure on that one. Oklahoma/Texas was another game he mentioned as a possibility.He's still not naming top schools and said he would probably wait until after the season to do so. He does see a lot to like in Texas A&M though. He mentioned A&M being in the SEC and strong in academics as pluses and called A&M "a top tier school."Since we didn't catch up with Anfernee after the Who'sNext BBQ I asked him a few questions about the trip."I liked the campus. I saw the coaches and they're real polite and try to get to know you. They sit with you and eat dinner and really try to get to know you. Academics is real nice. The campus is real beautiful. It's just a nice place to be."He mentioned A&M as the school showing the most interest right now.*********I got a few new names to watch2018 Hebron DE/TE Paul Akere caught my attention. He has a long wingspan and frame at 6-4, 195 pounds. He's moving from OLB to DE for the 2016 season.2019 Hebron WR Trejan Bridges (6-1, 170) showed himself to be a playmaking threat. His feet are nice and he made some nice moves after the catch to make guys miss. 2018 Hebron OL Braeden Daniels (6-4, 260) has some tools to work with. His flexibility and light feet stood out to me. Plus he does not have much bad weight on his big frame. 2017 Hebron WR Jalen Slater (5-11, 180) had the best day with an INT in the endzone as a backup CB, a big hit, and a touchdown at WR. 2018 Rockwall WR Cameron Crayton (6-2, 175) showed some very nice athleticism. He can flat out go up and get the ball. Still raw at WR, but has some tools. His brother, Caleb Crayton played basketball at Houston Baptist. Then there was 2020 Rockwall WR Jaxon Smith. He's not very big at 5-10, 160, but his first catch was one of the longest plays for Rockwall today. He has already been moved up to varsity and saw quite a few reps today and did very well. He's a name to watch for the future. Smith camped at A&M this summer.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
