Notes from Mid County
Checked out two talented teams today. Rain cancelled my trip to Beaumont Central this afternoon so it was just Nederland and PNG today. Tomorrow, I'm scheduled to see Silsbee scrimmage Beaumont Ozen before heading back to College Station.Let's start at The Reservation with the PNG Indians. Obviously, A&M commit Keynel McZeal is the headliner here. Keynel spoke to me about how A&M plans to use him in Noel Mazzone's offensive system, and how he'll be watching a lot of Ricky Seals-Jones this season. It's also noteworthy that he will be playing some defensive end in pass rushing situations this fall. McZeal is solid to the Aggies and is working on getting to campus this weekend with a visitor. That visitor is 2019 PNG QB Roschon Johnson. I know he's young, and it's a bit much to be talking 2019s...but the Ags QB situation is full all the way to that 2019 group. Plus, this kid is good. Really good. The only knocks I've got him are size and strength, but he's only 15. His mental game and QB smarts are off the charts for a young kid. On top of that, he ran on a school record setting 4 x 200 team as a freshman. Oh, and the coaches and admins at PNG all say he's the hardest working kid they've ever been around. Johnson says he's been in touch with Jeff Banks recently. This is definitely a name to watch for the future. Across the railroad tracks at my alma mater Nederland, they've got a few promising youngsters. They're led by 2017 OL Corbin Smith - a kid who we wrote could be on Jim Turner's watchlist throughout the season as the Ags look for a player to fill that now open OL spot since Creed Humphrey's departure. Smith is 6-4, 305 pounds and is currently committed to Rice. He's an extremely smart kid, and the coaches there at Nederland said he makes all the line calls from his spot at tackle. Could he play center? When I asked that, the response was, "absolutely."Other prospects at Nederland included a pair of 2018's and one 2019 kid - 2018 S Randy Wistner and 2018 OLB/DE Tiren Forney, as well as 2019 WR/DB Noah Lewis. Wistner has been talking to SMU and Sam Houston early on, and Lewis was in College Station for the QB/WR camp that was full of really good players.

Changing Course: Texas A&M's 2017 recruiting efforts at LB and OL
With two decommitments at the LB and OL spots over the past week, the Texas A&M staff may need to look to new faces to fill out the 2017 recruiting class. TexAgs recruiting analyst Jason Howell has composed a list of the most likely candidates, complete with highlights.

Notes from the Golden Triangle
I managed to make some of the rounds while visiting family in the last 24 hours or so and picked up some pretty good info.-I went out to PNG today to watch A&M commit Keynel McZeal workout. The more I see of Keynel, the more I'm convinced the Ags got a huge steal here. For a kid his size, athletic movements (particularly running) come very easy and natural. He's extremely smooth for that stature. I hadn't really noticed his ability to change direction until today either. Athletically, I don't know if you'll find a more gifted kid in Texas for what the Aggies want him to do. PNG is also home to 2019 QB Roschon Johnson. He's a 6-1 baby faced kid that coaches around the Golden Triangle have been raving about. The kid oozes leadership and work ethic, there's no question about that. I don't know that I've been more impressed with a kid that young since I started doing this stuff. Extremely well spoken. Confident. Hard working. All the extra stuff you're looking for in a quarterback. He played some varsity ball as a freshman and will be the full time starter for the Indians this year. Put me down as a fan of this future dual threat stud.-The biggest name in the 409 this year is PA Memorial's Kary Vincent and while I didn't talk to Kary, I was able to touch base with some folks close to his recruitment. They both believe Kary's still wide open but that there are a group of schools that will have the best shot - with the Aggies in that group along with Bama, Texas, and others. I believe the Aggies will keep one spot open in their secondary for a guy like Kary, a talent that would close out the 2017 defensive backfield haul with a bang. -A couple more quick notes: 2017 RB Calvin Tyler has transferred to Silsbee from Beaumont Ozen. Tyler received some attention from the Aggies early on but looks like he may be headed to Berkeley now. 2017 Nederland OL Corbin Smith is gaining a little traction with some P5 schools, including Stanford. While I think he's way down the board for the Ags currently, more than one member of the A&M staff was in the area to see him in the last few months. Lastly, look for 2018 Beaumont Central safety John Ruffin to start pulling in offers. I had more than one head coach tell me the kid is a big time player. That's it from me. I'm about to head to Sulphur for tonight's A&M/Tulane satellite camp. I'll make another thread with updates from there later this evening.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
