Quick hitting Friday night recruiting notes
-As the LB search continues, I continue to hear Vic Viramontes' name being thrown around. Also, an out of state source indicated that Michigan based ATH Jaren Mangham could resurface on the A&M board. He was being recruited at RB and LB, and if you'll remember, his mom ran track at Texas A&M. -New name to watch in 2020 is Hoover (AL) QB Robby Ashford. He's had a dynamite junior season after rebounding from a baseball injury last spring/summer. -2021 OL Reuben Fatheree was not able to make it to Kyle Field last weekend because his father, who's the head basketball coach at Richmond Foster, had to coach. Reuben did express some remorse for not making it from what I understand. He told a source that he knew he missed a classic. Jimmy Turner was by the school this week to visit with Rueben. -If you've been waiting for LB's to emerge in Texas, it looks like 2022 could be the year early on. Howell has talked about Walker Polk out of Coppell, and I just got a tip from a Houston area source about Katy High 2022 backer Ty Kana. He's been getting more snaps at inside linebacker for the Tigers and looks like a future stud. -Not huge news, but I've heard tonight that A&M has offered a PWO spot to local OL and Aggie legacy Reid Francis from A&M Consolidated. Francis currently holds several FCS and a few Ivy League offers.

Recruiting notes from the road
High school practices started this week, and I was able to hit a couple of schools plus pick up a note or two along the way. I'll start in Aggieland at A&M Consolidated where the Tigers are loaded with next level players across multiple classes. Obviously, A&M DT commit Josh Ellison is the main reason I'll be making the short trip to Consol this season. Josh looks great. He's reshaped his body to shed some bad weight and has started to put on good weight. I thought he was moving laterally better than I had seen him do in the past. His demeanor and attitude has also transformed as a senior leader of the defense. Excited to see what Josh does in his final year. Consol OL Reid Francis has a few smaller offers but told me Vanderbilt and Purdue had been in pretty regular contact. He's hovering around 6-4, 310 pounds. I've talked a lot about the trio of 2020 skill position guys that Lee Fedora will showcase this fall, and these kids keep growing and getting better. I can't believe both WR Brian Darby and DB Nate Floyd only have one P5 offer at the moment. Both camped at A&M and were held after by the coaches to chat. Perhaps the most interesting development with that group though is what is happening with WR Devin Price. By age, Devin could be entering his sophomore year, and he's starting to fill out. He's creeping up on 6-4, and I've heard he's squarely on the Ags big board in the 2020 WR class. Now, because of his dad's employment, there are some interesting ways A&M could go about recruiting Devin if they choose. However, he's working his way heavily into the offer mix on his own merit regardless of what his dad does for a living. He also camped a pair of times this summer and drew high praise from Dameyune Craig. Lastly at Consol, the new name to know there looks like it'll be 2021 DE/OLB Vince Sheffield. I'll save the explanation and just post this picture...https://twitter.com/r_brauninger/status/1026612865032245249?s=21I spent the last couple of days in southeast Texas to visit family, but I also checked in at PNG. Texas QB commit Roschon Johnson continues to be one of the more impressive young men I've covered. Respectful, hard working, and intelligent. The main reason I went over to The Reservation though was to see 2020 OL offer Jaylen Garth who will undoubtedly move up in our next rankings. He's a giant and has an outstanding frame. I'll have a full interview up with him soon, but it sounds like the Aggies are getting really interested in Garth. The coaches at PNG believe that they've got a future star. Garth will visit A&M for the Clemson game. While at PNG, I took my first picture of a kid in the class of 2022. Jackson Hunt is a freshman for the Indians, and he's already 6-4, 240 pounds. His father was an all state OL, and his mom was an all state volleyball player. He's also got relatives in the 6-7, 6-8 range. Pretty incredible to see a kid that big that soon. Keep an eye on 2021 OL Corey Burt, too. He's measuring in at 6-3, 275ish right now. Final note: I spoke with Katy Seven Lakes DE David Ugwoegbu a bit yesterday. He's still unsure of when he'd like to make a decision. I was also told Marcus Stripling still plans to take at least some of his official visits before announcing.

Notes from Consol
I got an early start to my spring tour this year and stopped in down the road to check in on Lee Fedora's A&M Consolidated Tigers. Defensive tackle offer Josh Ellison wasn't in the period today so I wasn't able to talk directly with him, but I did get the strong vibe that the Aggies were the expected landing spot (as you might figure). The offers from Baylor and Tennessee did catch his eye, but at this stage, I'd be pretty shocked if he didn't end up down the road. Offensive lineman Reid Francis is being re-evaluated. It sounds like the Aggie staff wants to bring him in again to make sure a local kid doesn't sneak through the cracks. He's just over 6-4 and 305 pounds. He projects as a center/guard and is extremely intelligent. He'll be in for the junior day on the 24th. The three super sophomores are supposed to be on campus as wel later this month. Wide receivers Brian Darby and Devin Price look like they're maturing nicely. Darby has a ridiculous catch radius. Price could grow into a Flex Y prospect, but for right now we'll keep him at WR. He's getting P5 looks in football and baseball. 2020 CB Nate Floyd is another two sport standout who will see his offer list blow up soon. He had a great sophomore season once he settled in at corner. All 3 sophomores have spoken directly with Coach Fisher and will more than likely camp at A&M this summer. And here's a 2021 kid to watch: OLB/DE Vince Sheffield. Big, physical kid for just a freshman who has the coaches there pretty excited.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
