A few Friday notes
First off, big shout out to Jason who killed the Cam Buckley coverage. Great stuff. Secondly, another big shout out to the guy at the gas station outside Oklahoma City who basically broke the Creed Humphrey news. I still can't believe how that happened. It's a small world sometimes.Speaking of small world, I've been running into quite a few connected folks at these baseball tournaments recently. I'm in Atlanta through most of next week coaching in perhaps the most scouted youth event in any sport in America. I'll start with Elkins LB Kenneth Murray who has really been feeling the Ags lately. Remember, this is a kid that showed up at the Houston Opening Regionals in an all Texas warmup suit. Whether you want to believe the Ags are leading or not, they're certainly a big time player here. Murray has started forming a bit of a relationship with Tyrel Dodson and a Houston area source told me today that if he were deciding July 10th, Murray would be an Aggie. Now, will that momentum hold up for another month until Kenneth's announcement on August 10th? Who knows? But this maroon and white surge is certainly worth noting and monitoring. I spoke a little bit to a source about 2019 QB offer Grant Gunnell. The last time I spoke to Grant directly, he was really pumped about the Aggies and his A&M offer...to the point where I thought he may be the first member of the 2019 class to pull the trigger. My source indicated that he doubted that would be the case and that Gunnell would probably listen to all suitors. He did mention though that he believes A&M will be at or near the top throughout the process though. Lastly, I bumped into a somewhat well known Austin area HS coach here in Atlanta. We got to talking about some of the baseball and football prospects in that area, and I brought up Stephan Zabie. His response was, "A&M has a much better chance to get him now than they did a month or so ago." I asked him why, and he said, "Jim Turner is really good at what he does. Plus, A&M has such momentum right now." It remains to be seen where A&M will go at OL, if they go anymore places at all. I just thought it was noteworthy because we hadn't heard anything in awhile on Zabie. I still say the Ags are behind here though.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
