TexAgs Spring Football Tour: Ridge Point & Ft Bend Elkins
Just wrapped up my time with the Ridge Point Panthers down here south of Houston. It's a muggy afternoon, and the football team worked out in shorts around lunch time. For me, it was an opportunity to get eyes on a few prospects for the first time as well as following up on the Panthers' best prospect - 2018 TE and Aggie offer Mustapha Muhammad. Schools in attendance watching today were Northwestern and Air Force. Let's start with some new names before we end with Staph. Chad Bailey possesses perhaps the best film I've seen from a 2018 linebacker in the state. He's a nightmare off the edge. I'd round him out at about 6-2, 230 pounds right now with an elite first step off the edge. The Ridge Point coaches even made comments about how it's hard to get things done offensively in practice because Bailey is blowing up every play. In the 10-15 reps I watched intently, I'd say Bailey made the play on 3/4 of them, and he got to the passer almost a handful of times. The film has started to get out and offers are starting to roll in. In fact, SMU offered him right before I arrived. Chad loves John Chavis and is looking forward to getting to campus sometime this summer. 2017 CB Terry Petry is committed to UH, but he point blank told me he wasn't solid to the Cougars and was listening to other suitors. He mentioned Texas and LSU as two schools that have begun to show more interest. I'm not sure if the Ags will get involved here, but they may. As of now, Petry is probably a little undersized compared to the typical John Chavis corner. He was sitting out practice today due to an injury precaution. A name to file away - 2019 DE Nelson Cesar looks like a miniature Daeshon Hall. One of the college coaches in attendance said, "it doesn't take a long to notice that kid. He's freakish." Last, but certainly not least, is Mustapha Muhammad. Staph is an interesting recruit because Kevin Sumlin has been his contact at A&M. He said he really likes the environment in Aggieland. He likes the proximity to home. He likes the fan base. Simply put, he likes A&M and says he talks with Sumlin weekly. He also likes to play things closer to the vest. He'll be visiting Michigan this summer but other than that, he has no set dates for visits. I'd be willing to bet he shows in College Station at some point though. He also said Oklahoma State has been recruiting him the hardest, but in my opinion, the Cowboys are playing from behind. As it stands now, the Aggies have as good of a shot as anyone. On my way to Elkins next. I'll have their report underneath this one in an edit later.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
