Recruiting notes from the road - Tuesday night
I'll be wrapping up my spring tour tomorrow but wanted to post some quick hitters that I've picked up in the last few days...- First, remember Athens OL Garrett Hayes is expected in town this week starting on Thursday to meet extensively with Henson and Fisher.- Remaining in east Texas, Longview QB Haynes King's College Station visit is also coming up soon. I believe Jason may have more intel there coming up. - I saw 2021 Port Arthur Memorial DE Jordon Thomas for the first time today, and boy did he impress. He doesn't talk much, and he doesn't tweet out offers when he gets them. However, he told me that he currently holds scholarship offers from A&M, Texas, LSU, Arkansas, and Baylor. This kid won't be under the radar too much longer. He's going to be right up there with the best DE's in the state in 2021. 6-4, 240 and very twitchy. He told me he hopes to get to campus this summer at some point to tour A&M's facilities.- The Golden Triangle is loaded in 2022 and a bunch of those top end kids will be on campus for camp in early June. Nederland DT Ricky Johnson Beaumont West Brook ATH Bryce Anderson Port Arthur Memorial CB Jaylon Guilbeau Port Neches Groves OL Jackson Hunt Port Neches Groves OL Dalton Dickerson - Staying at PNG, Texas commit Jaylen Garth is locked in with the Horns. He said he hadn't really ever talked with Josh Henson when he took the job and that played a factor along with Roschon Johnson being in Austin. - Ft Bend Marshall speedster Devon Achane is hearing all types of recruiting pitches from all the schools after him about the proper way to use him. I can tell you that A&M is using the Kermit Whitfield (Florida St) and Tony Pollard (Memphis) examples as ways to show Achane the Aggie Head Coach and offensive coordinator know what to do with a unique skill set like his. Whereas I once felt extremely confident in A&M landing Devon (around the time they offered and of the state championships in December), I think they now have a fight on their hands. I'm not saying I think Achane is leaning elsewhere at all. I just believe he's taken a step back and is listening to everyone's pitch. - I spoke directly with Josh Ellison multiple times in the last week. He was adamant that he had very much exceeded his necessary test scores to qualify at Texas A&M. He said the scores were going to be reviewed by the Aggie staff and then a plan would be put together for him. If what I'm being told is correct, I still think he'll be on campus in January 2020. There is a backup, just in case plan that I believe puts him at a nearby junior college for a bit, but again, Josh has told me directly he had the scores he needed. He was proud of himself for that - as he should be.

Thursday evening recruiting notes
The Aggie coaching staff was back scouring the state and region today. Coaching staff members along with Jimbo Fisher met with QB commit Zach Calzada as well as DL target Derick Hunter. I'm told Hunter's visit was extremely productive, and Terry Price, who wasn't one of the coaches in attendance, was even phoned in to speak with Derick and his father. I spoke briefly with Hunter earlier today, and he confirmed what we've been hearing about his genuine interest in A&M. Miami was in home with him today, as well.A Golden Triangle source saw Terry Price at a few places in southeast Texas. One of his main stops was at Nederland to see 2022 DT Ricky Johnson. Price will see priority 2020 DE target James Sylvester tonight as Newton takes on Daingerfield in Lufkin.I've also heard some more major programs are trying to nudge their way in on David Ugwoegbu. I'm working to get in touch with David again, but he did confirm his A&M OV last night for the Dec 14th weekend. Speaking of visitors, Kenyon Green text me late last night and told me he was going to have to move his visit from next weekend to a later date. Didn't seem like it was too big of a deal, but it is worth noting. Also, there won't be any visitors on campus this weekend. With the players and campus in the middle of finals and coaches still on the road, it seems like a measure calculated decision. The staff will be working hard to get any major targets who haven't visited and are December signees on campus next weekend.

A few Wednesday night notes
-I spoke to prized 2021 OL Hayden Conner about coming to A&M this weekend. He really wanted to make it, but he's actually going to Sam Houston vs SFA. He said his family goes to that game every year so his dad can see all of his old teammates. Hayden told me he's for sure coming back to Aggieland this season though and will likely make it to the LSU game. -The Ags are getting a head start on 2022 Nederland DT Ricky Johnson. I'm told Terry Price called the Nederland HC Monte Barrow yesterday, and I'm hearing Johnson will likely make the trip up Saturday. This is a 6-4, 275 pound 14 year old with a long wing span. It's hard to project kids this early, but Ricky certainly checks all the boxes of a future can't-miss type of kid. -Staying in the Golden Triangle, 2020 PNG OL Jaylen Garth told me he will not be able to make it up this weekend. His junior tape is really impressive, and we bumped him all the way up to the state's number 2 lineman in 2020. Look for Jaylen to make it back to campus before the end of the season though. The Aggies have some great ties to the PNG staff and administration. Alabama and Texas will be key players here as well. -Katy Seven Lakes DE David Ugwoegbu looks doubtful for this weekend now due to homecoming. Nothing has changed in terms of where he sits on the A&M big board. A source in Katy tells me that Jimbo Fisher has expressed to many folks how much he feels like they could use a kid with Ugwoegbu's skill set. -If you've checked the visitor list, you saw that Ft Bend Travis ATH Ainias Smith is scheduled to be in town. It's no question that the staff still feels like there's a spot for a speed merchant in either this class or next. That name in 2020 could be another Ft Bend County kid in Marshall's Devon Achane. The kid is electric and has posted some serious times on the track. Another 2019 name to watch with that type of skill set is Hutto's Chux Nwabuko. I don't think there's been any sort of interests from A&M just yet, but the kid just got an offer from Tech that caught a lot of people's attention. He actually reminds people of former Red Raider burner Jakeem Grant. -Rischad Whitfield (Footwork King) was back at practice today. That relationship is really blossoming under Jimbo's staff, and it's only expanded with the pledge of Demond Demas. ...I also typed this out in the truck before going into the gym for leg day. Y'all should feel important.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
