- Alright, so we are in the final stages ahead of the commitment announcement from Richmond Randle RB Landen Williams-Callis, and I wish I could tell you the picture has gotten clearer. In what has been one of the more veiled recruitments in the state of Texas this cycle, I've picked up notes from several of the schools left standing. The general sentiment amongst those has been, "We don't think it's us, but we don't really know that." To varying degrees, even the perceived periphery programs have not been given a reason to completely rule themselves out based on conversations our TexAgs team has had with people in and around those programs. Now, the most confident is (and has been) Texas. After doing some digging last week, I think I know from where that assuredness is emanating. Clearly, the Longhorn staff has something substantial enough to believe they're removed from the circle of uncertainty in which the other contenders find themselves. As such, that information has been relayed to their media members. We are this close to decision day, and their belief hasn't waned. In the last 24 hours, you've seen the Aggies make a social media surge directed towards Williams-Callis. Tweets from Marcel Reed, Rueben Owens, and Jamarion Morrow have all made the rounds. Is it too little too late, or does Trooper Taylor (who's been driving the Maroon & White bus in this pursuit from day one) have something up his sleeve? In all of my calls and texts down to that area, no one has been definitive. The responses have been more "I feel like" instead of "He's going to". There are at least two pair of boots on the ground down there that believe the relationship with Trooper Taylor is going to win out. Due to that, I'm not ready to completely shut the door on A&M's chances to pull a rabbit out of the hat. However, the confidence pluming from the state capital is hard to ignore. It's clear the Longhorns feel like they've done enough to secure the commitment. - So, what happens if Williams-Callis does go elsewhere? Well, DeSoto's SaRod Baker has been at the center of the next round of discussions, but the more I hear, the less I believe Texas A&M (or anyone else for that matter) will be able to pry him away from his verbal pledge to Texas Tech. Actual football could be the determining factor in what the Aggies do at running back - both in College Station and on the high school circuit.A&M could wind up being content with the product on the field and decide to wait until after the season to make a decision on another ball-carrying addition. That's certainly feasible given what the room looks like here in late July plus what the in-state crop of backs looks like in the 2028 class with kids like Ian Thomas (Tomball), Jayshawn Mitchell (San Antonio Brennan), and Sean Simon (La Porte) already squarely on the radar. The other form of action if LWC goes off the board would be to re-engage with a previous target and also scout the state/country for a late rising senior. In Texas, here are some names I'm keeping an eye on...Tyler RB CaDarius McMiller (Oregon)Montgomery RB Keldrid Ben (Oklahoma)CE King RB Antwon Sanders (Cal)Katy Tompkins RB Ethan Meadows - Outside of running back, there really isn't a lot of meat left on the bone for the Aggies in this cycle. The one position where we believe they could be continuing to evaluate is interior defensive line or a heavier, punchier defensive end (think Kingsley Keke or DeMarvin Leal). Should that be the case, there are a trio of Houston area prospects that I would have to imagine will be under heavy consideration.
