Recruiting Notes from last week's spring travels
Last week I made a few stops and checked in with a few top 2027s. Stops included Anna, Waxahachie, and Denton Guyer to see OL Peyton Miller, S JayQuan Snell, ATH Zane Rowe, and DL Khyren Haywood. We already posted interviews with all four and they all had great things to say about the Aggies, but here's a few more notes.First, Anna OL Peyton Miller. He was an early offer by coach Cushing and it is clear the two have really hit it off well. He has not named a list of top schools, but it is hard for me to imagine the Aggies not being a top contender here. In multiple interviews he has talked about the Aggie culture, coach Cushing's coaching style, and the ease he has communicating with the Texas A&M OL coach. He is a solid 6-5, 300 pounds. He has a lean frame and a versatile skillset in the trenches. He has been a starter at right tackle since his freshman year and this spring he is working a lot at center. He plays the game with a high IQ, and with his size, he has the versatility to play anywhere along the offensive line. I didn't get to see him workout because he was rolled up on earlier in the week and being held out due to a lower leg injury. It wasn't anything too significant but they held him out for the day. Miller is one of my favorites in the class and when we weren't talking about his recruitment and spring he made sure to talk up his teammates.PEYTON MILLER INTERVIEWIn Waxahachie, I got to see S JayQuan Snell do his thing. He is drawing some very close comparisons to former Waxahachie and Texas A&M standout Demani Richardson. He has been a multi-year standout on both sides of the ball, and at 6-3, 190 he is being projected most highly as a safety, so yeah, it sounds familiar. He is a rangy physical presence on the back end of the Indian defense and he has been a high priority target for the Aggies and Ish Aristide who by all accounts have really done a fantastic job developing the relationship there. Mike Elko's defensive background as a safeties coach is definitely a plus, and he does have a connection with Demani Richardson. The value of the Texas A&M degree and the power of the Aggie Network is also not lost on him. There's still a long way to go before this one is done, but right now I have had a few sources close to his recruitment tell me the Aggies are in prime position. Let's just call it very high interest.In-state there is also talk of the Longhorns and they can never be sold short as serious competition. Out of state, he has a who's who of options as well. Georgia offered on Tuesday and he will visit this summer. He also has plans to visit Oregon and Ohio State. JAYQUAN SNELL INTERVIEWAt Guyer the Aggies have offered two 2027s in Rowe and Haywood. Rowe was the first 2027 offered by the Aggies after James Coley saw him work at tight end. He has drawn a lot of attention at defensive end as well which is the main position Texas A&M has been pursuing him to play since Elko and Co arrived. He is a playmaker on both sides of the ball and he is open to either, but he would like to play both as long as possible.Rowe committed early to Oklahoma but re-opened his recruitment in January and he met Elko and staff for the first time in College Station in January. He returned for the spring game and right now he has summer visits currently scheduled for Georgia, Texas, and Alabama.Denton (TX) Guyer 2027 ATH Zane Rowe@ZaneRowe0 | @DentonGuyer_FB | @ReedHeim | @kylekeese | @mike_gallegos16 | @TA_Recruiting pic.twitter.com/p2ziDQ4YWe— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) May 9, 2025 ZANE ROWE INTERVIEWHaywood received his offer last June and while he is not the biggest or longest he is incredibly disruptive. He is also incredibly smart on and off the field. I hate to say it but it is hard not to throw out names like Byron Murphy and Ed Oliver when you see him play. He is active, athletic, and explosive in the trenches and plays a smart and advanced brand of football.Denton (TX) Guyer 2027 DL Khyren Haywood@KhyrenHaywood | @DentonGuyer_FB | @ReedHeim | @kylekeese | @mike_gallegos16 | @TA_Recruiting pic.twitter.com/3dFyFMC8sE— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) May 9, 2025 His size/length knocks him down the list and right now he is receiving the most attention from schools like Baylor, Texas Tech, SMU, Kansas State, and Ole Miss. KHYREN HAYWOOD INTERVIEWOthers on the radar2027 QBs Zephyr Kreye (Denton Guyer) and Jerry Meyer (Waxahachie) are both on A&M's radar. Neither hold an offer but the Aggies are familiar with both. Kreye camped at A&M last summer and while they bring different styles to the table they are both high quality QBs with several offers already in hand. Kreye is more of a prototypical, pocket passer with a big arm and size, while Meyer brings a blend of athleticism, accuracy, and decisiveness to the position. Anna LB duo Kailer Pettijohn (2026) and Cam Pettijohn (2027) are also on the Aggies radar. Both played at McKinney last fall with their cousin and Ohio State Buckeye Riley Pettijohn, and they visited Texas A&M this spring.Kailer currently checks in at over 200 pounds and has added some nice weight since the fall. Once thought to be more of a tweener/hybrid S-LB type, he looks like he is filling out his frame to be more of a true LB. He recently earned LB MVP honors at the Rivals Camp in Dallas and holds offers from Arkansas State, Ball State, Fordham, Sacramento State, Southern Miss, and UTEPCam was out sick the morning I dropped by Anna so I didn't get to see him, but when I saw him this fall he brought more of a true off the ball LB game to the table. Equipped with a stout build, he plays with a violent edge in the middle of the defense. Ball State, Sacramento State, Southern Miss, and UTSA have extended offers.Waxahachie 2026 WR Kohen Brown is another major prospect. He decommitted from USC shortly after my stop through and Notre Dame offereed and was pouring on the interest. He has been on Texas A&M's radar and he even visited in the fall. He is a two-way threat for Waxahachie, and there has been some thought he may project better to the defensive side of the ball. The Aggies have not offered and at least until that changes I don't expect the Aggies to be much of a factor there.2027 running back Jordan Smith has also transferred to Waxahachie. He has been a standout at Groesbeck the last few years and has visited Texas A&M a few times. A little smallish, he is known for his speed and abilities as a breakaway threat at running back and receiver. 2027 linebacker Carmelo Clawson has also visited College Station a few times. At 6-2, 215 he currently holds offers from San Diego State, Abilene Christian, and Southern Miss. New to my radarI love making these visits because I tend to see new prospects to put on my radar. Here's a fewWaxahachie 2027 Edge Sedrick Marsh-6-5, 230 with a long wingspan-basketball background who moved over to football in the fall-He received offers from LSU, SMU, UNLV, Arizona, Missouri, and Jacksonville State this spring-Very raw right now, but his athleticism, size, and build have coaches offering without much tape. Definitely a guy to put on the radar for summer camp season.Waxahachie (TX) 2027 Edge Sedrick Marsh, Jr@MarshSedri5998 | @NDNFootball | @Tolleson20 | @CoachDT_TFB pic.twitter.com/P362HyijDk— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) May 7, 2025 Anna 2027 OL Leshem Nyantee-6-4, 235 so he's on the skinny side but lots of length-his older brother is former Anna standout and Boise State RB Breezy Dubar-He is establishing himself as an athletic left tackle for the Coyotes-Right now he's very much a project, but the bloodlines, and the build make him a guy to keep an eye on down the line. Anna (TX) 2027 OL Leshem Nyantee@leshemnyantee10 | @AnnaCoyotesFB | @8_parr pic.twitter.com/jY3CMbOlSA— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) May 7, 2025 Anna 2026 LB Jaden Parker -6-2, 220 and quickly passes they eye test-He just moved in from Wichita (KS) Collegiate -He is also a standout on the basketball court-He received offers from Tulsa, Houston Christian, New Mexico, Southern Miss, and UTSA this spring-This guy has the look of a P5 prospect. It's a little late in the game, but he arrived in Anna with 0 offers and could be a hot prospect on the camp circuit.6'2 220 easy mover who can carry a slot vertical and can also fill a hole and finish with a boom! 3 down type player. https://t.co/P2slrl30C5— Robby Sevier (@Sevier5) May 7, 2025 Young GunsI also saw a few young guys to put on the radar. Guyer's 2028 class has some special potential. QB/ATH Carter Morgan checks in at 6-3, 185 and he is getting reps at both QB and WR this spring. WR Tristan Shelton is the son of former Baylor WR Trent Shelton and at 6-1, 180, he received his first offer from Houston in January. DL Logan Lokey already holds a couple offers himself and his father Derek Lokey was pretty good too. QB Rozzi Sperry is the younger brother of Guyer standout and Florida State signee Kevin Sperry, and he has shown some high-end potential of his own. Waxahachie has a few 2028s already emerging as well. JayQuan Snell's little borther Aaron Snell is already making noise along the defensive line as a 6-foot, 265-pound disruptive force with a 78-inch wingspan. On the offensive side of the trenches 6-4, 300-pound Carson Mansfield is already attracting attention too. He received his first offer from Texas Tech last week. Running back Taylen Strange is another one to watch with a stout, powerful build and an explosive burst.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
