Camp and Commitment Notes and Thoughts - What a freakin' day
My goodness what a freaking day. Let's start with the commits. There were three - two from Florida, two on the EDG, and the Aggies first commit of 2028. Yes, we had an idea a few were coming. Yes, we felt good about Frederick Ards III coming off his visit, but I'll be honest I was caught off guard by the timing. Judging by the reactions at camp today I don't think I was the only one either. Surprise, or not, it was certainly welcome. One of my favorites tapes in the class. Violent, disruptive EDG presence with length and a big frame and a lot of upside potential Loia Valade, I think you guys could read the tea leaves and catch the drift we felt pretty good about the direction things were trending there going into his announcement. Then there was Chance Archangel. Completely caught flat footed, wasn't even thinking about the 2028 class, but love the addition. Not only does he have an awesome name, but he is a twitchy and productive edge presence at a top Louisiana program. So what is my big take from the day of commitments? Keep your head on a swivel because the Aggies have some monster momentum with several commitment possibilities over the next few days and weeks. Now for some camp talk Archangel spent some quality time with Texas A&M commit Zyron Forstall. The Louisiana EDG duo have both had offers for some time, and both showed why today. Forstall is a five-star for a reason and he didn't have to do much to show it. After position drills he shut it down, but it was clear he is one tightly wound ball of explosiveness on the edge. Archangel brings plenty of his own as well. The 2028 group of offers showed really strong today at the OL/DL camp IMG OL Maxx Jones is a stout 330 pounds and he is a wall at OG. He is one solidly built dude. He plays with a great blend of power and balance and he bends and moves really well. For my money he is definitely one of the to interior OL I've seen in the class, and he loves the Aggies and coach Cushing. 2028 standout OL Maxx Jones working OG @Maxx_Jones_54 | @TA_Recruiting | #GigEm pic.twitter.com/RMjWC5wNyv— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) June 2, 2026
IMG OL Jamarios Canton is one of the more athletic guys you'll find in the trenches. At about 6-4.5, he is light on his feet with great flexibility and athleticism. He worked at OT and DE on the day and looked good doing both. Like Jones, he has a ton of offers and is firmly planted on college radars, and the Aggies are well positioned early on in his process. Also both IMG standouts are from Texas. It's pretty well known, and both had offers before heading out to Florida but it's worth reminding everyone. Lucas Lovejoy OT Jayden Thompson also caught the eye. His size and build are hard to miss, and he is so hungry to learn and grow at the position. Definitely one of my favorite personalities in the class. Louisville (KY) 2028 Kellan Hall also made some serious waves on the day. There is a reason everyone in the country is hot on his trail. He has the makings of a five-star standout and he is one of the more versatile and athletic linemen you'll see across the country. I'd say the guys who impressed me the most today were OL Max Jones, DL Kellan Hall, and seeing Canton flip over and go at both OL and DL was something else. 2029 DL Kitiona Tupua and OL Landon Ghea were also extremely impressive. These are without a doubt two national prospects. Tupua is a stout and explosive presence in the middle with a ton of power especially at his early ate. Ghea on the other hand is a long and athletic prospect with plenty of room to add mass and muscle to his frame. I also liked what I saw out of Barbers Hill 2027 DL and Houston commit Raiden Cook. The size is definitely there and he had some really nice reps working up and down the defensive line. It should come as no surprise all of these guys either received offers on the day or already had them. Then there was the 7-on-7 camp and I'll have to admit I wasn't as tuned into that for much of the day. Here's a few quick takes though North Crowley 5-star CB John Meredith IIIhas some unique traits and is a special kind of prospect. Surprise, I know, super hot take there. He got plenty of attention today from the staff, definitely not a bad thing to see him back on campus. North Crowley Texas Top 100 CB Jerry Outhouse Jr. was really fun. The UCLA commit had a few INTs where he came out of nowhere to jump routes over the middle. Really strong day. Hutto Texas Top 100 ATH Jaiden Fields put in a strong day at WR and S, and continue to show why he is regarded as one of the best in Texas. North Crowley 2029 CB Braylen Cunningham is going to be a problem for opponents..Shoot, he already is a problem. He is a versatile threat on the back end and very strong in man coverage. I saw him snag a few INTs in key situations today and he is unafraid to get out there and compete. It should come as no surprise there he already has several offers including Texas A&M.
