Late night notes - Thursday
- The flip of Beaumont United OL Weston Davis wasn't a surprise to some folks in southeast Texas. This had apparently been trending that direction over the last couple of weeks. Obviously, the exit of Drelon Miller was a piece to this puzzle. In other words, I personally don't believe Davis flips with Miller still in the class. In the end though, we knew (and have said ad nauseam) that these missed opportunities on the field would have repercussions. - Davis is a highly regarded prospect because of his measurables and overall raw athletic ability. He does have a long way to go to refine those tools though so it'll be interesting to follow his development at LSU. The skillset is definitely there, but it may require some patience. - Speaking of Miller, as I said earlier this week, I don't believe the door is completely shut there. It will take some work on the field, but if things go halfway decent through the back half of the season for the Aggies, I fully expect the staff to be able to get back in front of Drelon and his inner circle to present their case once again. - In the other thread that Jason started, I mentioned that it will likely be tough for Texas A&M to hang on to Jasper LB Tyanthony Smith now that his southeast Texas buddies Miller and Davis are no longer in the class. Since then, I've spoken to a pair of sources that indicated that DJ Durkin and the Aggies are still holding firm there. Smith made his own decision, and while he is close with Drelon and Weston, he didn't commit to Texas A&M solely because they were coming to College Station. He's formed a really tight bond with the coaching staff as well as Taurean York. I'll do some more checking on this tomorrow, but it sounds like all is well on that front at this juncture. - Another 2024 OL commit that's been hearing a lot from an SEC West rival is Coen Echols at Katy. I heard tonight that Hugh Freeze and the Auburn staff have really been showing him a ton of love lately and a trip to the Plains in the next few weeks could be in the works. - Staying up front, it's really tough to get a gauge on Blake Ivy and Isendre Ahfua because they do very little media and had played things so close to the vest for the majority of their recruitments. LSU and Texas finished runners up for Ivy while Utah made a strong push for Ahfua during the summer. I also wouldn't rule out the hometown Washington Huskies there as they eye a potential Pac12 championship and trip to the playoffs. I'd bet the Aggies will have a fight on their hands there if current trends continue. As of now though, I've got no intel indicating either are close to backing away from their verbal pledges. I should note as well that Ivy is out for the season with a shoulder injury. - I love the new offer that went out to Magnolia ATH Hunter Andrews tonight. I just hope it didn't come too late. He's been committed to Utah for a while, but he's got family ties to Texas A&M. There's also the fact that despite playing the vast majority of his high school ball on the offensive side, the Utes took him as a linebacker. James Coley offered Andrews as a tight end/HBack, and the Magnolia coaching staff raves about his skills with the ball in his hands. I'm expecting Hunter to make the short drive up to Kyle Field this weekend. If he does, I'll get his thoughts about the whole situation early next week. - If Texas A&M wants to go out and look for another in-state guy in that Ainias Smith role, I think they should take a look at Zechariah Sample from Katy Jordan. He'd been sidelined the last few weeks with a knee issue, but he returned tonight and looked plenty healthy. He's in the 5-10, 5-11 range but has outstanding quicks and great acceleration. He's currently committed to Arizona State.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
