Some notes on some key 2023s
I was out at the Under Armour Power Academy at Arlington Martin today and was able to get a good look at several top including Texas A&M commit Colton Thomasson. Arlington Martin 2023 5-star CB Javien Toviano has the attention of colleges across the country. He continues to build a strong bond with Texas A&M and DB coach TJ Rushing and plans to get to Aggieland this spring @Jaaee2saucy_ | @Martin_Football | @BobWager31 | @TheUCReport pic.twitter.com/bt0BGr3diF— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) February 12, 2022 Let's start off with the recruiting news and it comes from someone who wasn't participating in the camp, but is definitely high on everyone's radar Arlington Martin five-star 2023 CB Javien Toviano. The standout defender was there supporting his teammates that were participating in the camp. Toviano visited Texas in February, and he has a March 5 unofficial visit planned to LSU. The Tigers are coming on very strong right now and he mentioned LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame as a few schools who have his attention. He does not have a visit scheduled to Texas A&M but he does plan to visit Texas A&M this spring. He has a great relationship with coach Rushing and is excited about what the Aggies are building. He did not give a definite decision timeline, but he does want to take all of his official visits. Notre Dame is the one school he felt he would definitely take an official visit to at this time. I do not get the feeling he is in a hurry to decide. It does sound like he is growing closer to trimming his list to a few options though, and I get the feeling Texas A&M is going to be right in the middle of things. We will a full interview with Toviano soon. ******The biggest uncommitted Texas A&M target participating was Garland Naaman Forest 2023 OL/DL Markis Deal. Deal has been in close communication with new OL coach Steve Addazio, and the two are already forming a bond. He does not have a visit scheduled to Texas A&M but he does plan to get back to Aggieland soon. He left before one-on-ones but he looked good going through drills. He has been focused on basketball recently but he did not show any signs of rust. ******Texas A&M commitment Colton Thomasson was in attendance and he had a great day today. He checked in at a svelt 325-pounds. This was the best performance I have seen from him. He was light on his feet, and showed some very nice flexibility. He worked at OG and OT during one-on-ones and had some really bright spots. Smithson Valley OL and Texas A&M commit Colton Thomasson was one of todays top performers taking home one of thr OL MVP awards@ColtonThomasson | @SV_RangerFB | @TexAgs | @TheUCReport #GigEm pic.twitter.com/aJImHNInoD— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) February 12, 2022 On the recruiting front, he is working hard to build a strong 2023 class and he definitely has his recruiting pitch down. "If you are looking at the bigger picture there is no better option than Texas A&M. You have a National Championship caliber team. You have an elite staff of coaches who put guys into the league. You have an alumni base who will get you anywhere at anytime. And you have tradition at Kyle Field and an atmosphere like no other."Strong rep from Texas A&M commit Colton Thomasson@ColtonThomasson | @TheUCReport | @TexAgs#GigEm pic.twitter.com/FMX91PZQ55— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) February 12, 2022 ******New Orleans (LA) St. Augustine 2023 OL Tyree Adams already has several scholarship offers and it does not take long to see why. He is a big framed prospect with plenty of length and flexibility. He checks in at around 6-6, 280. He already holds offers from Colorado, Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Purdue to name a few. He does not have an offer from Texas A&M at this point but he is in communication with the staff and would like to visit in the spring. New Orleans (LA) St Augustine 2023 OL Tyree Adams checks in at 6-6, 280 and holds offers from every P5 conference. He’s keeping a close eye on Texas A&M and may visit Aggieland this spring@TAdams1_ | @EDGEASSASSINS | @TexAgs | @TheUCReport #GigEm pic.twitter.com/UvBKID2BDm— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) February 12, 2022 ********Today was the first time I had the chance to see New Orleans (LA) 2026 DL Jahkeem Stewart and my goodness, it is easy to see why Texas A&M and so many others have already offered. He has great size and he can move. He is going to be fun to watch over the next few years and Texas A&M is a program he is watching closely. It would not surprise me to see him make it back to campus in the near future.New Orleans (LA) 2026 DL Jahkeem Stewart@Jahkeem2026 | @EDGEASSASSINS @TA_Recruiting | @TheUCReport pic.twitter.com/pokm2kXXWX— Jason Howell (@Jason_Howell) February 12, 2022 ******* A few other prospects who caught my attention were Colleyville Covenant DL Enow Etta, Cypress Woods DL Terrance Green, and Frisco Wakeland OL Connor Stroh. All three showed some real tools. Etta has added some nice weight and continues to grow into his frame. Stroh checked in at about 335 and has done a really good job of reshaping his body. He is blessed with some tremendous size and he moved well today on his way to earning one of the top OL honors. Green worked at DL and he quickly passed the eyeball test. He was a violent presence in one-on-ones and sometimes a bit out of control. Showed lots of power and he has plenty of room for growth on his big frame. The ability for growth had some speculating his future may be on offense and I could see it.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
