Notes and thoughts from Thursday's Camp
-It was an offer bonanza this afternoon with scholarships handed out in the 2022, 2023, and 2024 class. The states of Texas, Washington, Georgia, and Florida were all hit and all of those guys stood out. Here's a quick recap of the offers CB Dorian Friend, Spring - Houston commit - speed, speed, speed, and fly paper cover skillsRB Tre Wisner, Waco Connally - 2023 - quick, explosive, and versatileRB Jayden Limar, Lake Stevens (WA) - 2023 - the solid build and burst caught my eye yesterdayOL Colton Thomasson, Smithson Valley - 2023 - see below DL Gabriel Harris, Thomasville (GA) Thomas County Central - 2023 - see below CB Caleb Presley, Sammamish (WA) Eastside Catholic - 2023 - he was my top DB yesterday afternoon without a doubtCB Vernon Glover Jr, Dickinson - 2023 - he may have had the most impressive showing of any CB this morningS Jack Luttrell, Dacula (GA) Hebron Christian Academy - 2023 - his footwork, athleticism, and range quickly drew attention.ATH Adam Hopkins, Thomasville (GA) Thomas County Central - 2023 - a do-it-all athlete who stands out on either side of the ballS Jaydan Hardy, Lewisville - 2024 - he can flat out go. Great offer to one of the state's best in 2024 -It was great to see Texas A&M commit Hunter Erb get out there and compete. He was not flawless as he worked at both guard and tackle but he showed strong. His footwork and power can be as strong as anyone's in the class and he handled all comers on the day. -Let's get to Julian Humphrey. The reviews were positive coming off his camp performance. He showed much better in drills and one-on-ones than I saw at the Elite Underclassmen Camp in April and I could see things picking up with the Aggies. We'll see, but I thought he showed well today. -The guy who opened my eyes the most today was Grayson Howard. The Jacksonville (FL) Andrew Jackson 2023 LB already had a Texas A&M offer when he arrived, but my goodness was he impressive. Whether it was drills, one-on-ones, or 7-on-7 he attacked it with intensity. He was first in line and he was leading the way. He also looks the part and has the makings of a first off the bus kind of guy. -The guy who jumped off the charts from an eyeball test standpoint was Gabriel Harris. The Thomasville (GA) Thomas County Central he did not workout today because he was icing up an injury, but my goodness he is how you draw up a defensive lineman. The 6-4, 240-pound standout walked in the room and owned it. Seeing him in person combined with his tape was enough for Jimbo to put that offer on the table. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12353967/5f8c2874bd754b0990826e57 -I really like the Colton Thomasson offer. This is one I thought might happen after I saw him at the Elite Underclassmen Camp in April. He has put in a tremendous amount of work to reshape his body and his athleticism has surfaced as he has grown and matured. He has lost about 70 pounds since I saw him as a giant 8th grader and he checks in right around 6-7, 330. -Fort Worth Nolan Catholic 2023 Kaleb James also caught my attention. I thought he had the best day of any defensive lineman. He was constantly at the front of the line during one-on-ones. It seemed like he was always taking a rep and he went after the top guys at the camp. He worked inside and outside and I thought he made a strong case for an offer. He is a little bit of a tweener and the in-state d-line talent in 2023 is very deep. He did not get the Texas A&M offer today, but I think he firmly planted himself on the radar. -Waco Connally 2024 CB Kobe Black was another of my favorite standouts who did not get the offer today. I would put him and Tallahassee (FL) John Paul II CB Makari Vickers. Those two both had great size and athleticism for the DB position and were locking guys up in one-on-one drills. -The QB position had some real head turners today. Choctow (OK) 2023 Steele Wasel, Richmond Foster 2023 JT Fayard, Pearland Shadow Creek 2023 Duke Butler, and Willis 2024 Derek Lagway all spun the ball well today.
