Rebuilding the Wrecking Crew: Aggie defense improvement directly tied to recruiting
It's been a steady improvement on the defensive side of the ball since Jimbo Fisher and Mike Elko arrived in Aggieland. While there's certainly a lot to be said for player development, there's no question the turnaround has been in large part due to wins on the recruiting trail.

Some Friday night recruiting notes
I was able to catch up with several top prospects. I posted my notes on Evan Stewart earlier. As I said, I give Florida an edge and I'm watching Alabama and LSU closely right now too. Both SEC West programs are coming on strong after summer unofficial visits. I could see him taking a visit in the fall, but right now the only visits he has lined up are LSU and Alabama. The Aggies continue to make an impression on IMG Academy 2023 CB Malik Muhammad. He told me today the Aggies are for sure one of his top schools. He is developing a strong bond with coach Rushing, he likes the DL recruiting, and Jimbo Fisher has his attention. He plans to return to Aggieland for the Alabama game.El Campo 2023 RB Rueben Owens told me the Aggies are in his top five. His relationship is strong with coach Robinson and coach Fisher. He played with the Bootleggers today who are quarterbacked by Texas A&M commit Eli Holstein. Holstein has already been in his ear and its looking like he will return to College Station again before the end of the summer.Denton Ryan 2023 LB Anthony Hill is making plans to return to College Station this summer. He attended the spring game and camped/visited in June, his next trip, for the BBQ/pool party in July. It was pretty cool seeing Holstein, Owens, and Hill talking before the snap a few times when their teams faced off during pool play. Holstein and Owens are on the Bootleggers and Hill is on TrueBuzz. Not to read too much into it, but it looked like they already had a nice comradery. Speaking of Holstein, he is off and running as a recruiter for the class. In addition to Hill and Owens, he also mentioned guys like fellow Louisiana standouts Kylin Jackson and Shelton Sampson as prospects he has been talking to about the Aggies. Texas A&M commit Ish Harris was out there today, and he told me he has been working on Harold Perkins and Jadon Scarlett since making his commitment. He is fired up about his commitment and excited about graduating in December.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
