Saturday morning notes on some 2022's
Went out to Brenham last night to see the Cubs scrimmage against CyPark. I came into the evening knowing a lot about CB Eric Hemphill III and LB Harold Perkins, but I left with two more names I'll be keeping an eye on - one of them very closely. I'll start with those first two, however. Be expecting a short interview with Perkins on the site shortly. We spoke for a couple of minutes after the game so I'll use this space to kind of breakdown what I saw. First of all, he's a supremely gifted athlete. We're talking top tier stuff in terms of his combination of speed, power, fluidity, explosiveness, change of direction, and first step. The best way I could describe him is smooth suddenness. There isn't an athletic box that he doesn't check with flying colors. He played primarily OLB on the evening and glided across the field to be around the football all night. Offensively, he scored the scrimmage's first touchdown on a 9-yard run where he hurdled a defender at about the 5 and waltzed into the end zone. We have in our top 10 in the class of 2022, and he'll stay there comfortably after seeing him play for the first time. This kid has athletic talent coming out of his ears. Yes, he's a little undersized, but this kid can flat out cover. He had an interception during last night that would have resulted in a pick 6 had the refs not blown it dead due to it being a scrimmage setting. His change of direction is fantastic, and he consistently plays with good leverage and technique. I like him a lot as a slot/nickel corner prospect. He's also got great top-end speed. I'd look for that offer list to really expand as soon as the junior tape starts making the rounds. From what I understand, A&M has been in contact with Hemphill fairly regularly.Hemphill video from Twitterhttps://twitter.com/R_Brauninger/status/1307104436100247552?s=20https://twitter.com/R_Brauninger/status/1307126586416795648?s=20Get ready to know the name Owen Pewee (pronounced Pee-Wee). The 6-3, 200 pound junior outside linebacker is also a talented basketball player, but he's poised to blow up on the recruiting scene on the gridiron soon. UH offered earlier this month, and if he plays in live game action like he did last night, he'll be adding a lot of schools to that offer list shortly. He was all over the field. Long, rangy, twitchy and plays with a mean streak. The CyPark staff told me before the game that they thought they had a hidden gem, and they were right. He won't be hidden much longer with games like that though. I was told by some folks there that the Aggies have started to take more of an interest in Pewee here in the last couple of weeks. He's a big framed wideout who is long-striding, fluid runner. He scored on a 3 really long catch and runs last night - each time pulling away from CyPark defenders once he got the ball in his hands. He's got a chance to be a Power 5 player in my eyes. Richardson video from Twitterhttps://twitter.com/R_Brauninger/status/1307123164821041159?s=20

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
